20/20: 7 Going on 70 (2010)
Early family history of Progeria
My fraternal aunt gave birth to a set of twins and another son all with progeria. This was in the early 40's in Tulsa, OK. My aunt gave birth to a total of seven children. During this time the medical field knew nothing of Progeria. The boys spent numerous hours in the hospital with medical professionals running every test known to man in an attempt to diagnose their condition. These boys were cared for carefully by the family. They looked very aged at death. The oldest and one twin passed away due to heart failure. The other twin choked on a bite of chicken approximately two months after his twin died. My aunt was solicited by several circus owners during the late 40's. She declined them all. The oldest died at approximately 15 and the twins at 17. Doctors said they had the bodies of men 107 years of age. Thanks to modern medicine we now know what it was.
