Showgirls (1995)
A state of Perpetual confusion
That is the only way I can describe the viewing experience of this movie.
Probably the only movie on IMDb where as a rating I wish instead of a number out of ten I could just give it ????????
Honestly... I recommend watching it. As a somewhat connoisseur of bad movies... I've never seen a movie that's bad in the way Showgirls is bad. It's baffling. And I feel like I need to view it at least 5 more times to even start to understand everything in this movie.
And not because it's complex on purpose.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
A guide on how to make a movie entirely out of references without writing a plot or characters
The movie is so busy jerking to its own franchise EVERY FIVE MINUTES that it leaves absolutely no room for character development, plot, setting, story-telling, atmosphere or personal interactions until eventually it just resorts to shallow and cheap emotional manipulation to compensate for its complete lack of humanity and inability to get the audience to care about anything it has presented on the screen.
Characters act entirely out of sorts with their given back-stories, lifestyles and way of living up until that point so as to be baffling. Not that it matters because every single character is merely a shell as a stand-in for a different character from the original trilogy without any of the substance, weight, or honesty.
The main villain looks more like he spends his day in his room listening to Linkin Park at full volume and crying over a photo of Darth Vader than any kind of military planning and is about as intimidating as a back of wet bread.
Ray is so bland as to have absolutely 0 personality whatsoever and Fin, despite actually having an interesting setup for his character, degenerates into the comedy relief despite this being completely at odds with the kind of person who would have been if his back-story was given any sort of consideration other than something to slap on to him as a cheap label. Harrison Ford, bless him, sleep walks throughout the entire movie and doesn't look like he wants to be there. BB-8 is introduced as a potential new droid but is all but completely forgotten about by both the movie and the audience after a certain point.
The movie is also as predictable as the alphabet.
The only points I'm willing to give it is for Carrie Fisher who, despite not being on screen as much, seems like the only real human being; Some of the scenery early on while we're still on the desert planet; and the first few minutes we're introduced to Fin and I still found myself invested enough to wonder what would happen to this character on later in the story.
It's ruined my whole mood for today. Please let's never speak of this movie ever again.
