great production but ending disappoints
11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was very nicely produced and very nice to watch. However, the whole plot revolves around Amnesia (memory loss) of the Doctor and the ending was so disappointing. So throughout the whole movie, the Doctor doesn't remember his past. He was beaten up in the street by some gangsters and got a trauma in the head. His friend, the other doctor watched this happen but couldn't do anything. He was jealous of the main character so he let him bleed on the street but had a gun with him so he scared off the gangsters from beating him up completely. Later, he acts like he doesn't know what happened when the police questions them.

The wife of the Doctor leaves him earlier that day, taking the daughter with her. The daughter is really small. They go off and live with the woman's affair. 15 years go by and the Doctor, now missing his memories, and the daughter, now missing her fortune, end up in the same village.

The disappointment for me was the ending because the whole movie, you expect the big reveal that this scraggly looking man with doctors abilities but no doctors degree (because he doesn't remember), is indeed the father of the girl. The reveal is done so abruptly and lazily: The girl's lover (the Count) asks her mom (since she's loyalty) to look into "a scandal" around the time the girls mom left the house and finds out the father's dead body was never found. This and the fact that he performed brain surgery on the girl = Is enough information for the girl to assume this guy is her father?? It was very disappointing. This could've been done so much better and it felt like they ran out of budget towards the end and just did it very hastily.

Visually stunning, emotionally empty
13 February 2021
I've watched this one seeing all the positive reviews and thinking it would astonish me as well. Because there's nothing more I love than simple, deep and visually stunning movies. What for me lacked was the emotional investment. The two women go from barely talking to being lovers, who "somehow" know all the personality traits and quirks of each other. Only from 1-2 hours of walks in a couple of days? Note that most of those hours are spent in silence. I would expect more clever writing for this movie, because I wasn't quite convinced on the love and devotion between the two women. Which led to me not being moved by the ending at all.

No one got it
22 April 2019
I watched this on a long bus drive, expecting to fall asleep really fast because I usually do on the road, no matter what I'm watching. But I didn't and after looking at the reviews here I felt like I should write one, because apparently no one really got it. It's not even about "getting" it actually. There is no secret or implied ending/plot which people missed. Characters feel so cartoonish but so unique. Such good acting. Such an interesting story, what an idea to create a movie out of! I think most people nowadays just expect a film to make sense almost in a mathematical way and if you keep the movie up to those standards, it's not a good movie. And I also get that if you're not that into visual arts, or practice painting yourself in particular, you might also find it absurd and meaningless. If you expect good special effects this is also not for you.

What this movie is, is a modern horror fairytale. A story no one really ever told in this way. A brave one, too. The movie is an original artwork which will be forgotten & resting in dust, because it won't ever be that popular, like Dease's work never did, in the film.

That is, until someone uncovers it, looks deeply in it, feel all the feelings and ideas that went into it and it gives that person chills.

One of the best thrillers I've seen in a long time
10 April 2019
I felt like writing a review after seeing how underrated this movie is. I stumbled upon it on Netflix and have been watching it over 3 nights because of how tired I am from work. Amazingly, the film didn't lose any of its magic, even with so much interruption. Towards the ending, I thought "ah okay. so this is how it's gonna end", but it still didn't fail to surprise me. I know that there are a ton of similar movies in script, style and genre, but this one is still unforgettable in its own right.

I highly recommend this if you are a thriller fan.

I'm in love
11 July 2017
Top quality animation, incredibly exciting, extremely good game adaptation.. I'm so excited for the upcoming seasons. The first season was more of an intro to our main characters. I was so disappointed when the show ended.. Hopefully the team will work quick enough to keep the excitement.. There's always a game-y feel to the show (obviously) and you feel so attracted by the scenery all the time. The demons are so well made, they give you the creeps. The slight detailing that makes it still an anime works perfectly. I love love loved it My only stupid concern was that it was in English. I somehow feel weird watching anime in English.

I feel so bad for all the effort put into this
5 February 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I was very excited to see this film, because I'm a Del Toro fan. I like his visual style and Pan's Labyrinth is a legendary film for me. The movie however, fails to meet the expectation. It is supposed to be a quirky, creepy but visually rich story with ghosts in it. The script is so weak that I got the impression of having watched this movie, although it was impossible. There have been so many movies in a haunted house, with 2 perverted siblings, whatsoever, that you immediately get a dejavu. The only surprise (which is not really a surprise if you're a movie nerd) is that the siblings f*ck each other. The rest of the story is very weak. The lines are so lame. No references to anything. You feel like you're reading a badly written children's novel. I'm really not a hater. On the contrary I was very ready to praise this film. I've just read the trivia here and I see that the house was completely designed only for the movie. The costumes were "blah blah" fabric. Ms Chastain learned the PIANO for this role?! It took 6 years for the movie to be finally shot, del Toro wrote 12 versions of the script.. All this effort and yet you have a very averagely shot, boring, visually inadequate film. The costumes looked like they were made in 5 minutes, out of curtains. Very sloppily made, not detailed and not suitable for the time period. Even the hair-styling was so bad I sometimes wanted to cry (especially of Edith). The coloring looked like a bad instagram filter, rather than looking artsy and rich. The house was ridiculous. Everything looked plastic and cheap rather than antique and original.. There was nothing interesting in the story. The ghosts SFX looked like something out of a 90s computer game. Really? Such a great illustrator like Toro can work so hard and only come up with ghosts that look like stupid, red, skeleton men? I can understand the need to emphasize color red here, but it was horribly done. And the things that were supposed to look like blood rather looked like goo. Overall it looked like the budget was 10,000 bucks TOPS. From my point of view, Tom, if he's for the first time fallen in love with someone other than his sister, should not have slept with the sister again, after sleeping with Edith. So many details were unanswered for in the script. What good is it that Edith is a story teller? Why, after listening to the recording in the MAIN HALL OF THE HOUSE WHERE EVERYONE WOULD IMMEDIATELY HEAR HER, she leaves everything and runs in the snow? If she is so intellectual, why doesn't she make a nice plan to run away? Why does she even keep eating the food they give her? Blah blah blah.. I'm very sorry but even a 4 is too much for this. It's one of my fav directors, along with 2 actors that I ADORE, the movie is in the genre that I LOVE, and it's still like sh**.

Long story short: No one will read this review but if you do, lower the expectations. A LOT

everything you could expect from a teenage drama series
29 December 2016
I started watching this only because so many people on my twitter timeline were raving about it. And tbh, I like teenage drama.

As some stated before, yes, it is a very "white" series. But I don't see what's bad about that. It is very well-made, in that it's very time-effective. The episodes are very short, but you get so much of that character in that short time. It's like a regular series, except they removed all the "filler" scenes, things like a car approaching, a house seen from far away for 30 seconds, stupid lines between people that don't matter. That's the one thing I like about this series. Very focused, very time effective, focused on feelings and characters. Also, the soundtrack is on fleek.

Just give it a shot and watch the first 1-2 episodes. They are short anyway. I'm 99% sure you'll like it.

We Bare Bears (2014–2019)

One of my fave cartoons already!
19 August 2016
A friend recommended me this show, knowing I'm a huge Adventure Time fan, and to be honest, my expectations were really low when I first saw it. I've watched Regular Show, which is always compared to be in a similar line with Adv Time, but I found it so lame with forced humor and rip-offs from Spongebob, Adv Time, and many other legendary cartoons. For me originality is somewhat really important.

I have to say I was completely amazed when I watched the first 2 episodes already! Just the right amount of humor, some hidden adult jokes, and a really good mix with the modern life today + fantasy. I love how the bears really just go through daily life as we do and this is never bizarre in the show because they made the story line and the fantasy world so well.

I could write pages and pages of praises for this one, but just watch it and you'll see what I mean. Really laid back, funny, cute and original show.

It was the most interesting movie I've ever seen
3 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Okay so I had absolutely no idea what the movie was about when I entered the theater. When the movie started with all of the "planet"-like things for -i don't know- how long, I thought "oh crap, this is going to be one of those empty-but-artsy movies".

I was completely wrong. The movie, although moving very slowly, takes you in, and you just sit there and wonder what weird / dramatic / shocking /unexplainable thing will happen next. Throughout the whole movie (if you haven't read the book beforehand) you will keep trying to solve the puzzle and fail. Until the very, very end.

It is hard for me to explain what was so attractive about this movie. Maybe it is the amazing acting of Johansson, or the randomness of the men in the cars, or perhaps that the scenes were so picturesque, that you couldn't take your eyes off sometimes? I don't know.

What I do know is, however, that this is more than worth seeing. If you have the capability of tasting and enjoying art, then you will love this.

And I am saying this, as a person who "hates" really boring art movies. So trust me.
