Pride & Prejudice (2005)
You Can't Please Everyone
I think that we all should agree that this was a approx. 2hrs. If it had been a true adaptation it would have been a ten hour miniseries. My personal view is that it is a good adaptation of a book I have read. Knightly does not give a perfect performance, but she is extremely young and has a whole lifetime ahead of her. Judi Dench as always steals the movie. Tom Hollander does an amazingly funny job as Mr. Collins, and for some reason a Mr Collins I do not despise. Mathew Macfadyen did a great job, and you could see the change of countenance in his eyes. Overall the cast was a great cast that made it work beautifully.
Yes the movie may have certain moments where you ask "And what of/How/ When?", but what modern day movie does not. Even the great films have had certain questionable scenes. Yes I do understand that certain mores of that time did not permit someone to leave their "underdressed", but it worked for the film. I especially found the last scene to be a bit strange, though funny... where Lizzie states "You can call me Goddess Devign", that may have been a little too much... since this was not the 20th century England.

Well A Strange Film it Was
I consider myself a rather weird individual myself, I see strange foreign and art films, I read a lot on history and classics. Yet when I saw this film I oculdn't stop wondering what in the world was happening. I understand the metaphysical aspects of the film, even the Faust influence, but to me it lacked something central. The acting was great from Deneuve and Malkovich (Loved Shadow of a Vampire), but some other actors were a bit too fake, too overly dramatic. Yes, the cinematography is gorgeous, it makes me feel rather odd and at the same time its beauty is alarming. I think that it is actually an okay film that needs a better score and a more developed plot. A good but not phenomenal film. I have seen better movies concerning this idealogy, not many but a handful.
