Rhythm + Flow (2019)
So look bro...
My expectations were pretty low but I was pleasantly surprised. I actually really like the show but I'm from Inglewood so I'm probably biased. Unfortunately, in the social media era, I knew the winner before I finished watching. I don't know if that will work in the future.
Let's get too it! Either you like Cardi or you don't. I'm not the type to hate people I never met but that's the generation we live in.
In my opinion, during Episode 1, all I was like damn, Nicki would be perfect for this show. Sorry. Ok Remy would have been dope actually.
BUT
The longer the show went on I was like oh I see. I was thinking was she sleep the first episode? Her eyes were barely open. But in later episodes it became clear, Cardi is keeping this show afloat. Her jokes, her facial expressions, the annoyed look on chance face...
This show would be so stale and redundant if it were anyone else. They are one judge away from premiering one episode after, Jermaine Dupri's the rap game. Chance and TI are great but Cardi just makes you smile then spit up your drink at the same time. "Hanging by a hair" bro what?
But after you get used her, she's dope, plus she brings the other two, especially chance, out of their shells. TI is already good with the cameras and lights but she makes him show his lighter side. Chance looked annoyed but he's dope in his own way.
I'm all over the place but to bring it together it's dope. The winner was pretty obvious to me from the middle. Not the most marketable like the person I thought would win from the tryouts but the winner was the most ready pen wise, performance wise, and personality wise. Plus that person's style has a huge market around the world and in certain US communities.
Overall I'm happy I watched it and I'm pleasently surprised.
Hyperdrive (2019)
I'll tell you why I took away two stars.
1. The announcing. I don't think it's terrible. Personally I'd keep the black guy from ESPN (I'm black so it's ok lol), the lady for interviews, and bisbing because I'm biased (I realize he contributes literally nothing lol), but the beard guy had to go. Get a retired racer please. Just one will give the announcing some credibility. Right now it's like watching Shannon Sharpe break down Nascar.
2. The leveler is flat out dumb! It takes an exciting race to an extreme boring pause. One second you're watching gone in 60 seconds, then suddenly you're watch car Jenga.
Other than that it's an addicting exciting show to waste a day on. I'm sure the surprises will piss some people of but I thought they were very fair and more importantly you gotta appreciate Netflix for anticipating the wants of the viewers. So many time you watch a show and the clear favorite loses over some mistake or something. It's great to finally see a competition show address that and more importantly address their mistakes.
Awake: The Million Dollar Game (2019)
Great host, decent challenges
The host is the best part! He's very entertaining. The idea of the show is cool and the challenges are good. The only downfall is the ending. I think it should be a little more interesting at the end after all the work it took to get there. The beginning is cold blooded too only because you feel sorry for the contestants. Overall it's a great show. Loved it
IO (2019)
Stupid
All they had to do was at least make it to the fxcking spaceship instead of trying to be cute and maybe this terrible bs movie could have been saved... why does this movie even exist???
