Tenet (2020)
Nolan is out of ideas and is full of cliches
As if copying himself was something new really.
Lame sound design is especially boringly manipulative and overly predictive.
Polyoty vo sne i nayavu (1983)
True and bitter
Some of the reviews here helped me understand this movie better. I was born in 1984 so I only heard the fuss this movie made back then. While watching it now I felt constant despair as if not only the main character was living meaninglessly but the whole town this movie was set in. It is hard to watch indeed, but I can understand how it was perceived by those living in a deeply stagnated country.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Eastern style fantasy
I tend to like western fantasy more, because it's about fictional places and abilities, not behaviors.
A Hidden Life (2019)
Reading Wikipedia article is much more entertaining
It is a mystery how could anyone turn such a story into a boring unbelievable mess
Doctor Sleep (2019)
Kubrick meets DC
Word of a warning: the ending is literally painful to watch.
Assa (1987)
Not a good example of perestroyka movie
Absolutely disgusting soundtrack along with vague pretentious plot. Good example of degeneracy in late soviet cinema industry.
Chernobyl (2019)
Lie for the sake of entertainment
I'm more than convinced that Chernobyl is a stunning portrayal of the disaster which is in fact mostly forgotten now in modern Russia with all its heroes and villains. And I'm as a person who was somehow involved and somewhat suffered from the events really grateful for the attempt to remind the world of the tragedy which left a bleeding wound in our hearts.
Yet despite the great work of telling that story I'm bitterly upset by the fact that it fails to tell the truth, which is ironical given the statements that creators was making promoting the movie. The truth here fell the victim of the entertainment.
My only regret is for people who lost their lives saving others only to be stigmatised by the modern dull, stereotypical propaganda.
Mother! (2017)
Clumsy metaphor for another metaphor which was maybe a metaphor for some another metaphor
Do you know what metaphor the screwed breakfast and hot frypan stand for? Of course it's the DuPont Teflon waste disaster.
The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
A sad tale
Of grave misunderstandings, beautiful breast, and a power of hugs.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Unbelievable
Literally. It becomes quite trendy nowadays: a decent music, perfect camera, great acting. And complete absence of an interesting story.
Annihilation (2018)
Beautiful and promising, yet disappointing
The film just lacks a ton of logic. There were such many promises in the beginning so I started hoping maybe for something like Tarkovsky's Stalker or Solaris, instead I got the cliche horror ending. Just meh.
