Oh my god! When the credits rolled up and my friend and I walked out of the cinema we didn't know what to think. We felt bedazzled and shook up. the more we thought about it, the more we realised what a fantastic film it was. Bill Murray has done it again, excellent reputation move for Cate Blanchett, Owen Wilson, Anjelica huston and many more. It's like a peter pan adventure, but set in our world. bill murray (steve) has created his own fantastyland on earth. the contemporary mockumentary style filming makes this an independent film worth watching, just as good as Lost in Translation. Not only is the film sad, funny, but hits on important issues like a male life, mid life crisis, long lost sons, troubled marriages, careers, friends dying. What do fathers imagine when they still feel like a boy and along comes a long lost son who is as old as they feel. Do not miss it!!! ten out of ten!!!

Todd Solondz shows perfectly the frustration of growing up. How Dawn (the main character) feels the need to impress her teachers, guys, her siblings and most of all her parents. I especially like the BBQ where she dressed up for school-heart throb. Luckily I never went through this kind of torment through school, but there is still some bits that every person can identify with.The narrative and actors very funny! set in a suburban Jewish community. Todd Solondz also covers every kind of issue that young women must go through their life, rape, unfair lower marks in exams (reflecting wage the work industry), the pressure of looking attractive, arguments with boyfriends, running away to New York and many more. But the great thing about this film is that isn't a happy ending, there is no ending I feel the message Solondz was trying to create is there will be many more frustrations and issues in Dawn's life. As it ends she is sat on a bus with lots of young girls, going somewhere she doesn't want to go, she ends up joining in the singing showing society has now got her, she must stop rebel and join everyone else. You must see this film!!!!!

This is one of my favourite films, as it is so easy to watch, i think the director was being Padraic of other action/adventure films and that is why it appears cheesy. I think the areoplane scene which we can tell is really fake, is meant to make you laugh. I particularly like the way secretly Sharon Stone's shorts within the film start as clam diggers and by the end of the film she almost has hot pants on (typical Hollywood male gaze of woman). I think for that time the special effects were excellent for an action/adventure treasure hunter film. I like the narrative of this film, as its not really complicated, i also like the way light is used in the tree tops when sharon & quatermain meet the upside-down people. This film is perfect to watch hungover eating warmed up pizza from the night before.

i found that the opening scene with katie embry in it is typical of the hollywood representation of teenage girls. This has been a uniform representation since earlier slasher films, such as Halloween. Isn't it about time this changed! Other than that i thought the film was excellent.
