The Adam Project (2022)
It felt like a drag
I wasn't aware that this movie was directed by the same director as "Free Guy" (Levy). However, during the film I soon realized it was, because "The Adam Project" has the same feel to it. Perhaps it's my personal taste, but the story misses a proper introduction. We never really understand the stakes at hand and therefore I don't really care that much about what happens. Combine this with time travel and you got yourself a pretty confusing and contradicting plot. The film is not that long (under 2 hours) but it took me forever to finish it. Ryan Reynolds plays himself and by now we know his "tricks" and humor. I would love to see him play someone else one day. Same goes for Mark Ruffalo to some extend. I appreciate that Levy tries to create films grounded in modern technology, but it just feels fake and over the top. All in all, this movie and Free Guy makes me fear what is going to happen with Deadpool 3. Probably more of the same.
The Final Year (2017)
Accidentally shows what went wrong
The documentary succeeds in showing the struggles of the Obama administration. I got the feeling that they all really tried their best, based on their assumptions of how the world works to improve the state of the world.
However, it becomes painfully clear that the United States is in fact no longer the police agent it once was. The (looming) election of Trump shows that perhaps there should have been a little more focus on what was happening in their own country.
Overall, the Last Year was a little slow, a little positively biased but accidentally shows the pitfalls of the administration.
The Iron Lady (2011)
Different than expected
I liked this movie. It's not so much a biography about Margaret Thatcher her life, but more a story about how mental illness can affect anyone: even the Iron Lady (or especially the Iron Lady). The decisions she took were not easy, nor were the things she experienced. All of these came to hunt her at the end of her life. Acting is solid, the production looking a bit cheap at times. 7/10.
Mulan (2020)
Rather watch the animated movie
If you start watching this movie to see an accurate live-action portrayal of the animated movie (like me), you will be disappointed. I can understand that the director needed to drop some of the elements of the original, as probably they wouldn't really work in live-action. However, what I don't understand is the big alterations that were made to the story itself. Changes that made the story worse, not better. Why skip the transformation of Mulan from woman to man, cutting off her hair? Why include a witch? Where did the exceptional music go? The opening sequence with Mulan running after a chicken on rooftops made me cringe too. I advice you to skip this one and watch the original animated movie instead!
