The American Barbecue Showdown (2020)
Lyric Lewis shouldn't be on the show
One of the hosts, Lyric Lewis, doesn't have a role on the show and it's clear that they try and let her say a quick hello or introduce some small transition segment. It's awkward that she clearly doesn't belong - she is not the main host and is not a food critic or BBQ contest type person. She takes away from the show by being redundant.
60 Days In: Narcoland (2019)
Should be called "60 Days of Trying to Make Friends with Drug Users"
There is nothing qualitative about the undercover work that these people are doing. They are trying to basically just fit in and make friends with a bunch of drug users who have zero contacts. Trying to buy a joint from somebody at a gas station will not land you Pablo Escobar. There is absolutely nothing qualitative about the work these people are doing. They all look incredibly awkward around the drug users, And the one guy in jail is called out immediately for being a plant. I can't imagine how hanging around a bunch of drug users when you don't use drugs yourself will lead to any really big leads. This show is basically about a bunch of cops who try to make friends with the lowest level drug users in society thinking that it will yield them some contacts into the Mexican drug cartel.
Too Hot to Handle (2020)
Narrator is annoying
I didn't know a narrator could ruin a show but they can. This lady just dumbs down the show and makes the show sound low budget.
Absurd Planet (2020)
Mother Nature's voice makes this unwatchable
My headline sums up the first thing that jumps out - Mother Nature's voice make this unwatchable. I noticed this in the first minute of watching and it just gets worse. Avoid this at all costs.
The Carbonaro Effect (2014)
Where is everyone?
The magic is fantastic, and Carbonaro is a great host...but 2 things jump out. The first is that there's never anybody in the store or area being filmed. These are hardware stores, toy stores, nutrition stores...and they are always 100% empty except for Carbonaro behind the counter. The other thing that jumps out is that the people being "tricked" are disproportionately black. I am not sure why this is...but the show could be titled "Michael Carbonaro does magic for unsuspecting black people in empty stores". The people in the show are definitely not actors, but the producers find a way to keep other people away from the trick. The magic, though, is really good and the reactions seem genuine. Carbonaro is a very talented magician.
