Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016)
"Majestical"
Sometimes you really need a movie like this one. Its nearly my first review. Just couldn't resist writing one. This movie is a perfect blend of drama, comedy, and adventure. A peculiarly beautiful story with an breathtaking landscape that makes you want to dive into that "majestical" world. New Zealand is in my to-travel list, thanks to the Hunt for the Wilderpeople. Acting is very good and screenplay is very well written, but it's the cinematography that steals the show. A great job by Lachlan Milne Acs, you can't help noticing it. Plus soundtrack has one of the sweetest songs. It is a family movie. I definitely recommend this.
The Intern (2015)
One of the sweetest movies made lately
Robert De Niro is the reason which made this movie so like-able. He plays an old gentleman who is so sweet that at some point, while watching the movie, you wish to be like him when you get old.
Ben, a widower who is retired, see a flier while getting some groceries about a senior intern program at a start-up. Unlike other seniors who showed up for the job he is the most full of life and physically fit. He impress every body and he is Mr. Congeniality of the company. Ben is assigned to work with Jules, CEO, who is somewhat skeptical at first. Initially frozen out by her, Ben slowly wins over co-workers with his likability and gets into Jules's good graces.
This movie is all about Robert De Niro. The way he played his character made me love this movie. He have proved them wrong who say that De Niro's career has taken a nosedive. The Intern is a family comedy which can be funny and dramatic as well.
Do yourself a favor and go watch it.
Sleepers (1996)
A powerful psychological drama
I thought by reading the summary on IMDb that it would have been another De Niro Hit like and his character would be like Max Cady or Johnny Boy. But he was not the central character in this flick by Barry Levinson nor the film was anything like Cape fear or Mean Streets but It is, indeed, a powerful drama which happens to be a true story.
The Sleepers starts as a coming-of-age film and then take over from there. 4 kids/friends pull off a prank which goes wrong and they end up in juvie. Which among them would have expected the horrors to come which would change their lives. A crooked child-molesting guard Nokes, played by Bacon, abuses them along with his associates. As a result, when they get out, Tommy and John who have became street thugs kill Nokes years after they accidentally see him in a pub situated in their home town Hell's Kitchen. Michael (Brad Pitt) who is now a lawyer takes the prosecution in order to lose and reveal what the guards did to them back in Wilkinson Home the juvie, Which they succeed in by getting father-like Father Bobby (De Niro) to testify/lie for John and Tommy, After Shakes tells him the whole story which they had never told anybody.
Hoffman, who played the defendants lawyer, acted in an outstanding way. You can see that when you watch him asking questions. De Niro, too, is as excellent as always. Every kid actor also play his character beautifully. This film by Levinson is even more thoughtful than Rainman. It's a blend of Comedy, Crime, Drama, Thriller and tragedy as well. Which certainly makes it worth watching.
