Black Adam (2022)
DC Strikes Gold
This. This is the movie from DC Comics that we have been waiting for. Nobody could have been a better match as Black Adam, as Dwayne Johnson the Rock, perfectly portrayed the role and the look.
The action motion was at times a bit jumpy when Black Adam was using super speed, but the cool factor made it only a minor issue.
The supporting characters helped bring this movie alive and drive character into it.
My only gripe about this otherwise fantastic movie? They way over powered Hawkman. He nearly matches Black Adam strength for strength. Mind you, my point of view is pre 2000 DC comics, the last time I read them. If 52 , or something else changed that, I don't know.
Non the less, this was one top notch film.
House of the Dragon: The Heirs of the Dragon (2022)
A bit disappointing
Most of the actors were barely adequate with only one rising above, Milly Alcock. Even though she's 22, she looks like a child yet has grace a wisdom. Sadly, he role will be short lived. The show borrows on many of the elements from GOT, but none of Its magic.
I see no one filling the shoes of Peter Dinklage, Kitt, Maisie. Liam or the Hound. I'm hopeful for better character developement, but wary.
Visually, the show has been very well done with many of the original sets reused and there is far more realism this time with the dragons.
As for now, I only give the show 4 stars. To be honest, I found the first episode a tad bit boring, although It does well to better explain the history of the Targaryen family, which helps..
Don't Look Up (2021)
A Total Farce
While there are some good comedic moments, this movie is a farce. It has a great cast with the chance to make a great disaster film and then goes to a level of stupid that just proved too disappointing.
If you want comedy, it's not a bad watch. I just consider it a waste of great talent.
Abigail (2019)
Humongous potential
It really had great potential. The main theme, the characters' powers and abilities, and the special effects were all in place. They failed to deliver. They should have developed the girl's powers and really, her father should have lived. I liked the movie, yet was disappointed at the same time.
Light of My Life (2019)
Good story that drags on
The basis of the storyline of a father and daughter trying to survive, makes for a warm story. Sadly, this is the good part.
Too many of the things in the story didn't sit well with me. I don't agree with the premise that society would simply fall apart due to all most all the female population dying off. Third world countries perhaps, but not the U.S. ,Britain or any advanced society. Rule of law would continue as we slowly regain a female balance. It just simply wouldn't be like a global war or asteroid destroyed most of civilization.
The other issue I had, why in the world didn't he have a gun ?
In the Name of the King: Two Worlds (2011)
Watchable if you've nothing to do at all
I loved the first one with Statham, so I had at least some hopes for this one. I was sadly mistaken. While the plot for the movie had a good amount of promise, Dolf's acting and the directors' directing left much to be desired. The unknown supporting cast actually performed their parts fairly, but Dolf plodded through his. Get a much better director, a bigger budget and someone like Liam Neeson to play the lead and this movie could be quite good. If you have a choice between doing the laundry or this, get your clothes cleaned. What cgi there was in the movie was so so. The choice of scenery, or location of the film if you may, was quite nice. I think the worst parts were that Dolf wasn't very heroic, camera was jittery like a hand-held and the plot twists were weak at best.
