The Kissing Booth 3 (2021)
A Bittersweet Ending to a Great Series!
This movie hasn't been getting good reviews and I don't understand why! My favourite movie personally is the second one but there were a lot of important messages in this third installment. After the finale of the second movie I had a feeling that Elle would end up choosing an entirely different college and I'm so glad that she did that for herself and pursued what she truly wanted to do, dropping the need to keep everyone else happy. I also felt like the ending was great, Noah and Elle both felt ready at that point and mature enough to explore the special bond they had. Noah always showed a lot of red flags in the movies and Elle was definitely trying so hard to please everyone else that at one point Noah was trying harder than her in this third one to make it work. After Elle put herself first and became her own person, upon seeing him again you could tell they were ready. The ending leaves their fate open to interpretation, but I think there's a heavy implication that it worked out!
The movie didn't have as many laughs but it was still funny and two scenes in particular were really great! It also had very emotional moments and I will really miss the series!
Mulan (2020)
True to the Legend, Not the Original Movie
I am a massive Mulan fan, the original animated film has always been my favourite Disney movie. However, the animated version was different to the original legend, and that is what the new live action movie stays true to (or more so than the animated movie). It isn't so much a live action remake as a live action retelling, and I did enjoy it, but just not as much as the animation. I missed Mushu, the music and villains, who were very creepy and threatening in the original. This movie felt very much like a Disney+ production, not something I could imagine in the cinema and I found it hard to connect with the characters and the story, sometimes finding myself bored. Without the iconic music, both the instrumental score and the Disney songs, the emotional moments failed to pack as much of a punch. I would recommend the movie for a watch nonetheless (maybe when it's free) and there's no doubt you will enjoy it if you enjoy the original legend, but if you are expecting a 'true-to-the-previous-film' remake, you'll be disappointed.
