Mysterious Island of Beautiful Women (1979)
Remember this from my Childhood
I came upon this movie by reading Jayne Kennedy's bio. I saw this in the fourth grade. I sat and paid attention and didn't miss a minute. I could not remember the stars at all or much about the characters. I just remembered the babies being on an island due to a plane crash, had to be named by an older girl and that one of them was named Flower.
I was so happy to read posts by other reviewers who saw it and filled in all the details. It wasn't a bad movie and as one reviewer said, isn't the point of a made-for-TV movie to suspend reality for two hours? I would like to see this again and find out how it holds up. Also, the part about the war and which one was totally lost on a fourth grader.
Unidentified (2006)
Where are the UFOs?
This is the third movie in a month I have watched that did not go the way I expected. The first two being The Black Dahlia and Hollywoodland, neither of which gave any new ideas of who committed the crimes.
I have always had a fascination with UFOs and was so excited to see a new movie on the subject of UFO investigation that was not a comedy. But after about 30 minutes, it all went horribly wrong.
I could have stood for the acting, the camera angles, the stereotypes if only there was a good story about chasing UFOs, but none here. I am not saying there was anything wrong with the subject matter, but Netflix pushed this movie as a UFO skeptic and a UFO believer investigating multiple sitings.
I stopped watching about half way thru. Can't believe I wasted that much time with this one. Please don't make the same mistake I did.
California Fever (1979)
Remember the Show
I finally found someone else who saw this show. No one I ever ask has any idea what I'm talking about. I have never even heard of this show coming up during a trivia game.
I was only about 7 or 8 at the time it aired, so I remember very little. I knew it was about a bunch of teens on a California beach, southern California I later assumed, but was never sure.
I do recall part of the theme song, "California here I am and I love you. I've got the fever for you!" I just remember that being sung over and over again. I still remember the tune of the theme song.
It is good to know that a few careers seem to have been started with this show however brief it was with way less than one season.
Lipstick & Dynamite, Piss & Vinegar: The First Ladies of Wrestling (2004)
Left out important players
For the most part, I enjoyed the movie. It provided more information on the backgrounds and careers of the lady wrestlers than you find on most fan wrestling sites, books and magazines. I am surprised, and a little disappointed, that African American lady wrestlers were not included in this movie. I would think for every roadblock the featured wrestlers encountered, the African Americans would have encountered twice as many- one for sex and another for race. One needs only take a look at the book "Black Stars of Professional Wrestling," by Julian L.D. Shabazz, for names like Dinah Beamon, Mary Horton, Ethel Johnson and so many others. A couple of the ladies in movie did mention wrestling African American ladies. Maybe Ruth Leitman is saving that for her next movie.
