Apollo 13 (1995)
It's good, but WWWWWAAAAAAYYYYYYY over done
Thus movie has unusual problems that I've never seen in a film outside of this as well as many major problems.
First and foremost, there is no tension or suspense. Anyone who goes to elementary school knows that all three astronauts survive, so for all the scenes in space I kept saying "Yeah, I know! they're going to live!" This brings the film down many levels
The plot doesn't start until 30 minutes in, it doesn't feel long but the scenes in the first half hour feel like filler. I don't need to know that Jim's wife dropped her ring in the shower!
Also, it has the same problem as Super 8, the unsubtle period detail. I didn't need to know that Jim's daughter was upset that the Beatles broke up, or that she dresses as a hippie. It rarely happens and isn't as bad as in Super 8, but why can't any one in Hollywood make subtle period detail! Then again this film does have the director of the Grinch.
Many scenes are done well like the scenes of just the astronauts in the ship. The moon scene would've been very good, but they had to ruin it with Jim's fantasy of being on the moon. The scenes of they're family's got irritating after a while. It doesn't help when you keep cutting from the main story of the movie to people watching TV and listening to the radio. Also what was with the son in military camp? He has no lines of dialogue and does exactly what everyone else who isn't the main character does. He didn't need to be in this movie, or at least have something to do!
The box that creates the oxygen in the ship has no explanation. It would in real life, but I would like to know how a box made of tape and plastic bags can seamlessly make air out of nothing!
Then there is the end narration, which sounds like it came out of a bad teen film.
I'll watch this movie again maybe in a few months but until then, I'll stick with Armageddon
Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008)
In No way is this movie better than the first one
I did like the first Madagascar film and I was expecting to like the sequel just as much, because animated sequels to kid's movies might not be as good as the original, they're never bad. Accept for this one.
Everything that works in Madagascar does not work in Escape 2 Africa, starting with
1. THE WAY THE STORY GETS SET UP. I know it is a kids movie but I can't believe that penguins and lemurs were able to rebuild a damaged 1940s-ish airplane that was stuck in a tree and get it air worthy. King Julien and gang enter the plane solely because kids liked them in the original. Even though none of them do anything the entire movie!
2. THE JOKES. This movie had exactly the same problem that Men in Black II did with Frank the pug and the worm guys where I have to ask "Why are these one time joke characters from the first movie doing in this movie? There is no reason besides kids liked them in the first movie!" That is exactly what I said about the old lady, the penguins and the lemurs! And in Men in Black II at least I was enjoying myself when the worm guys and Frank were on screen. These characters are stupid, the jokes are not funny and they get so much screen time that it becomes annoying and painful.
3. THE "PLOT". This movie is animals sitting around and doing nothing for the entire film. In Madagascar the best part of the writing was how the four main characters interacted with each other. In Escape 2 Africa then spend the entire film doing their own thing showing how boring these characters are when they are by themselves. This movie try's to be a parody of The Lion King and it's not a very good one. If you remove the everyone sitting around and doing nothing plot from the lion king you would still have a great movie, because you would have great music, great animation and great scenes. If you remove the everyone sitting around and doing nothing plot from Escape 2 Africa, you would have nothing. Which is what this movie left me with.
Super 8 (2011)
Bad Things Happen?!
I saw this movie in theaters and enjoyed it, but then I read some negative reviews and decided to watch the movie again to see if I missed something, boy did I miss something.
The dialouge pretty much every kid sounds like Eli Roth wrote the film which is strange seeing how JJ Abrams made good dialouge for the teenage crew of the enterprise in Star Trek. And Just Like in Star Trek..
The two dads relationship makes no sense, why does Joe's dad act like Alice's dad killed Joe's mom? it was an accident and Joe's dad does not realize that until four months after the fact and grows unnecessary hated for Alice's dad.
How did a fire cause the town to evacuate, why didn't the military just commandeer the town?
If Charles likes Alice and wanted to get to know her by putting her in the film why didn't he, you know get to know her? He should have and would have spent time with her showing her exactly what he wanted to see on the film instead of constantly making Joe give her makeup?
The military is molding tire tracks which goes no where and why didn't they try following the footprints the monster made when he escaped the train!
But the worst part is the ending, as many people have said. The movies that inspired this movie have a good message behind them, the message in this movie is that bad things happen. Not only is this message weak but it's not even a real message it's just a statement sort of like how this movie is just a statement by JJ Abrams saying "I Like Spielberg Films"
The movie does have potential which is why this movie isn't a 1 but there is just so much bad stuff in this movie as you might see
The Dark Knight (2008)
best superhero movie ever? HA
Im going to have to be brief because I hate this movie so much: 1. The Joker is too invincible. He is so invincible he can drive a bus out of a public place, rig a hospital and TWO boats and no one notices. Also everyone he comes in contact with even teenagers want to work for him even though he will kill them once needed. 2. Pointless characters. Lao should have been written out of the film, he adds nothing and amounts to nothing, pointless. The guy who knows who Batman is goes no where and his character only amounts to a stupid explosion 3. Breaks the main rule of cinema. The protagonist defeats the antagonists. There are two main villains in this movie and Batman doesn't defeat either one. 4. Harvey's motivation in the end. I hated Harvey through out the film but once he's two face he just becomes dumb, he believes that people should have a 50/50 chance like Rachel, though thats NOT WHAT HAPPENED. Gordan was just late so now he's going to and KILL GORDAN'S SON!
There are other problems but those are the most major and I can not believe instead of noticing these problems people and went and gave it #8 on the top 250.
Up in the Air (2009)
wastes almost everything imaginable
Where do I begin with how this film wastes. Let's start by wasting talent, everyone does a good job in this film, it's too bad they had to be in this film. In the fictional world of this movie, they're wasting time, money and human resources. Why do they need to fly someone out all across the country to FIRE someone, it's a massive waste. And the movie becomes aware of this so it's now wasting my time. Ryan Bingham is incredibly unlikeable and when you have a story like this you need me to care about the main character which is near impossible! Then is the person who follows Ryan around and the poor writing makes it sound like she's never been to a hotel before! Speaking of which the product placement is offending and annoying, which retracts from the story. In the climax Ryan is trying to get to Alex and they have someone scream Hurtz gold card. It was bad enough throughout the film but in the climax, it through me out of the film. Then we find that Alex is married with kids which drove me crazy with how much that makes no sense. She could just voice chat with her family while she's away on call them instead she lies to the people she knows and loves and it shows how evil she really is. Avoid Up in the Air at all costs.
