The Curse (2023)
Neo horror or cringe comedy or whatever the hell you might call it, this was brilliant
Well, i guess that was the curse.
Every single episode, this series has taken us on a journey where honestly, you didn't know what the hell was going to happen next. It tackled privilege, racial tensions, white guilt and shame, and it always made your skin crawl with secondhand embarrassment.
Well, with that last episode it just took such a left turn that i would honestly call this a neo horror. My heart was racing the entire time! All the season it has just been cranking up on the absurdity and this last one just delivered on all fronts.
I don't know what genre this was but honestly this was next level stuff. All tv shows should be as daring as this. What an absolute TRIP!
Succession: With Open Eyes (2023)
Like a Greek tragedy
Succession's previous three season have all been about how the Roy children were orbiting Logan. The brilliant thing about season 4 is they completely imploded that dynamic, which in turn have sent all three of the siblings descending into their worst selves. They literally don't know how to do it with their whole, harsh universe (Logan) gone.
This episode, then, sees that ever-downward spiral finally hit its climax. None of the Roy children are fit to do anything really, and they are deeply awful people, and some of them finally come to that realization. The way Roman so eloquently puts it, they are literally nothing.
This was an absolutely savage, sometimes emotionally scarring and one of the saddest finales I've ever seen.
The White Lotus (2021)
This is satire at its most sardonic and hopeless
This show is really something else. At the surface, some people might dismiss it as "silly" or "too weird" but it is really one of the best satires out there.
Almost every interaction is littered with biting takes on class struggles and how they play with sexual politics. Sometimes the dialogue is really simple and dry, but the actors faces' say just as much as their words. In this show, body language is so important! It is almost like what they don't say to each other is just as important as what they do say.
Aside from that it is peppered with the most zonky characters ever, but all of them ring true. Like, these are people who could well be actual living people. Well, awful actual living people more like it. But you get the point.
I hope this show goes on for at least 5 seasons. It's brilliant satire.
Succession: Tern Haven (2019)
This is peak television drama right there
This episode was just fantastic and i wouldnt be surprised if it won an Emmy. That dinner scene was one of the most fantastic things I've seen on tv recently.
BoJack Horseman: The Stopped Show (2018)
Nothing gets REALER than BoJack on TV right now
Wow. There's really nothing much more to say. The fact that I'm crying as this episode ends is honestly just the tip of the iceberg on what has to be one of the most emotional depictions of a troubled personality ever put to screen. It really doesn't get any better than this.
Hereditary (2018)
One of the best horror movies I've ever seen
Wow. I am out of words.
I honestly didn't care for The Witch, and I don't get why people find this so similar to it. Maybe it's the pace. But there is something here so visceral and intense that I feel like comparing it to the likes of The Shining and The Exorcist.
This movie, from the very beginning, feels extremely sad and hopeless. It never lets up for even a second. Even when things are fairly normal near the beginning, it feels weird, like something is lurking at every turn.
When things start happening, man they REALLY start happening. There are some chilling moments here. Mind you, the creepiness here doesn't come from visually horrible things, or jump scares. The scares in this movie linger, creeping up on you when you least expect it. I saw this movie two weeks ago and when I go to sleep I always remember the fate of this family and get chills. It is really that effective. And I've never felt this way with any movie, like EVER.
And then there's the acting. Oh my god, the acting is like a punch in the gut and three in the face. I was particularly impressed with Alex Wolff, especially in the infamous car scene. And Toni, please, have all the awards already!
All in all, it's a remarkable film, that puts the horror in the grief and heart wrenching loss this family is going through. From the beginning you get the feeling this family is doomed. And by the end, you are already crying in despair, with an ending so out of the leftfield you can't help but sit there baffled at what's just unfolded onscreen.
Please go see it now.
Jack and Jill (2011)
Painful... just painful...
I did not laugh a single time! Stay away from this movie. "Just Go With It" is ten times better.
I really don't know what Al Pacino is doing here... Or his glory days are over or he must be in really serious financial problems.
It's silly and IT'S JUST NOT FUNNY! I get the feeling that even Adam Sandler knew it would become such an awful movie.
I couldn't wait for the movie to end to get the hell out of the theater, but I had to stay until the end because of my friends. Well, don't watch it with your friends, because you won't be amused... at all.
Don't watch it!
Arrested Development (2003)
We've made a huge mistake...
Not watching this show while it was on TV was easily one of the greatest mistakes of mankind. Yep, mankind. D'you know why? Because it's the greatest show to ever grace us. Sorry, it's better than Seinfeld, Friends, Curb, The Office, It's Always Sunny etc. You name the show and this one can beat it in every single aspect.
I don't even know if it aired here in Brazil due to its short run.
The writing is great, the characters are crazy, and the comedy is so fast paced that it can break the barrier of the speed of sound.
And the best thing about it: no laugh tracks. I mean, I love simpler series such as The Big Bang Theory or How I Met Your Mother, but the laughs just gets me on my nerves! Also, the original soundtrack is hilarious.
Anyways, if you've not seen it yet, buy it right now! It's well worth it!
