Oppenheimer (I) (2023)
7/10
It could be much better.
10 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The film presents a compelling narrative centered around the father of the atomic bomb, blending historical elements with dramatization. While the storytelling is coherent, it lacks the intensity and excitement one might expect from such a profound subject. The cinematography, although aesthetically pleasing, follows a similar pattern of playing it safe rather than being truly invigorating.

A notable drawback is the film's reliance on CGI elements that seem superficially integrated. These elements are included primarily for visual enhancement but lack sufficient context or explanation, which feels like a missed opportunity to deepen the narrative impact. Moreover, the visual effects that are central to the story feel underwhelming, failing to match the gravity of the historical events depicted.

A significant omission in the movie is the lack of imagery or footage depicting the aftermath of the bombings in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Including these could have profoundly enhanced the emotional weight of the film, making it more impactful and thought-provoking.

However, the creative decision to incorporate black and white footage is nice. It's important to note that the movie isn't just about the 'father of the Atomic Bomb' but mostly delves into themes of revenge.

The treatment of the Dutch element in the film is ridiculous. For a production of such scale and budget, the portrayal of the Dutch language is misleading, with the dialogue neither resembling Dutch nor German. This lack of attention to linguistic accuracy detracts from the film's overall credibility.

In conclusion, while the film is competently made and offers a unique perspective on a pivotal historical figure, it falls short in several areas, particularly in its visual storytelling and historical authenticity. It's a nice attempt, but it doesn't quite achieve the greatness it could have.

What a wonderful story
28 November 2023
I truly loved this story and how it builds into something remarkable. Some people may not be used to good storytelling, but great stories need time to develop into something special. This story delivers on all levels. The acting is great, especially the character of the 'au pair'; Victoria is wonderful, showing her character's strength and vulnerability. The cinematography is very well done and complements the lighting design. The sound design, costumes, and location are all outstanding.

If you love a good story and you take the time to experience something special, I highly recommend watching this series.

Netflix did it again - A Rushed Ending to a Once Engaging Series
9 June 2023
It's quite evident that "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" had the potential for more seasons, and its premature conclusion, decided upon by Netflix, comes as a regrettable surprise. The series, having maintained an impressive rating throughout, deserved a more fitting closure than what we've been served.

The most striking issue with the last episode is the rushed narrative, which seems to be a symptom of the show's untimely cancellation. The otherwise meticulous storytelling that had initially drawn us into Sabrina's supernatural world gets undermined by inconsistent and illogical developments. The usual artistry that we've grown accustomed to, unfortunately, takes a backseat in this finale.

What this abrupt conclusion leads to is a profound sense of disappointment. Not only for the audience who've been avid followers of the series, but also, it does a disservice to the creative minds and passionate workforce that brought this magical world to life. It's saddening to see a show of such caliber have to haphazardly wrap up its plotlines, underserving the characters we've come to love and admire.

Netflix's decision to cease the series raises a plethora of questions. Why did they choose to end such a high-quality production? The corporate rationale behind this move remains an enigma, and one cannot help but ponder whether creative storytelling is being undervalued for monetary gain.

Nonetheless, I lament the missed opportunities and the potential narratives that could have continued to enthrall us. This series was more than just a show for its dedicated fanbase; it was an entrancing narrative that deserved a far better ending.

A Fantastic and Unexpected Adventure in the D&D World
16 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was a delightful surprise, far exceeding my expectations! The casting was nothing short of impeccable, with each actor delivering a wonderful performance. The characters were relatable and engaging, making it easy for viewers to connect with their journeys. The story was very well written, boasting a captivating plot that held my attention from start to finish.

The editing and cinematography were masterfully executed, seamlessly blending thrilling action sequences with heartfelt moments. Loved the Eskrima knife fighting art showcased in the knife fighting sequence.

Set in the rich and expansive D&D universe, this film has undoubtedly paved the way for exciting sequels. I eagerly await the chance to delve deeper into this enchanting world and see what new adventures lie ahead for these beloved characters. A must-watch for fans of action, adventure, and fantasy!

The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Season 1, Episode 3

Wow, what a beautiful love story.
2 February 2023
What a beautiful love story and amazing storytelling. This deviation from the game is so heartbreaking and sweet at the same time. The story is great. The actors did a great job and made me feel invested in their lives. The cinematography is beautiful. This is the first time I have given anything a 10, but this episode deserves it.

The first three episodes have been great. I hope the team can keep it up. Nothing else to say, so let's end with a short story to reach the 600 word mark.

The Last of Us, a journey rough, With love and loss, it tells a story tough.

Surviving the end, in a world gone mad, With every step, memories they had.

Where is the story?
4 June 2022
Fantastic Beasts started fantastic with the first episode. It was still good with the second instalment, but the third movie was very ... very disappointing. The biggest problem was the lack of a good story. The political theme is not logical, nothing is explained and we just see a flat narrative.

The color grading was poor. I expect it was graded for Dolby Cinema/HDR displays but it was very dark overall in a normal cinema. I know that many DP's are afraid to clip the highlights, but really we needed a bit more midtones. The mood was also intentional dark, but it didn't work as there was no story to hold on. I think it was a tough job for the editors to create something decent from poor source material.

Mad Mikkelsen is a good actor, but he is not Johnny Depp. The character portrayed by Johnny Depp brings some eccentric awkwardness and really supports the motives for Grindelwald. It's a shame to ditch a actor only based on false rumours.

Wow, an amazing series
16 May 2022
I very good character driven slow paced movie about humanity and an alien invasion. Really loved the story telling. This is not a serie for people who need action within 1 minute into a movie, but for people who understand how a story builds.

Highly recommended.

Great modern version of a classic story.
8 September 2021
What a wonderful surprise. It's a beautiful cinematic musical with a wonderful story, great performances, humor and all those classic songs most will recognise. Loved the singing. Very well done.

I highly recommend watching this movie yourself. I learned that ratings say absolutely nothing. One of the movies we will watch again and again.

Everything makes sense now
11 April 2021
I watched this in HDR on an OLED TV.

Everything fits now. The story is solid. The characters balanced. Cinematography is amazing. The color grading and dark scenes. Wow. It's a completely different movie. Even the length of the movie didn't felt long. This is my first 10 ever, because the movie did put itself in a different league and out of appreciation Snyder and his team found the energy to do this for us.

Chinese propoganda with good animations
11 March 2021
It's obvious that China has a bigger influence on Disney's content. Geopolitics in action with this really nice animation. The storyline is very poor, but still a nice movie. Especially the kids will love it. It's about a country fallen apart and it's journey to unite all fallen parts under one. You can see China, Taiwan, Nepal and others if you like. It's about trust.

Great series.
20 January 2021
The perfect mix of glamour, intrigues, beautiful decors, dresses, gossip, romance, sex and love in a patriarch society where the woman are the strongest. These days people are not used to see acts of love, and sexuality (therefore many give a low rating) is for many people more difficult to see compared to acts of violence, but rest assured. The sex is passionate but not explicit and suitable for all ages. It's a typical historical romance novel adapted to the screen and it's perfectly done. The performances are strong. I would love to see more.

Entertaining, but the first part is better.
23 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I had the feeling they didn't know what direction they wanted to go. For example, why introduce some cool zombie types, but never see them in the movie? Good cast, bad story. And what happened to little rock?

Great ending.
21 December 2019
Loved the build up, loved the cinematography, loved the character development. The ending was already signalled in part 7, and loved it.

The haters never watched the older movies, or forgot how they were. ;)

Nothing to do with BDSM
12 May 2019
It has nothing to do with the BDSM world. They were so wrong with almost everything. They also should cast actors who were more comfortable with nudity and eroticism. The producers only wanted to cash the money during the hype, but forgot the movie.

Missed opportunity to have a good look into the wonderful world of bdsm.

Oh wow
12 May 2019
What a great movie. Near perfect. I don't give a 10, but it's a 9.5. Saw it in HDR on a big OLED screen, but would love to see it in a Dolby Cinema theater.

Fantasy presented as a biography.
12 May 2019
The acting is good. The story took too many deviations from the truth. Why? Even if the writers just used all facts, the story would be interesting enough. Now, they made their own version. The movies and interviews on YouTube give a better understanding, but it's a nice movie. Not that good as everyone likes you to believe.

No story, bad writing, good acting.
11 May 2019
I expected much much more. The story, or better, lack of a story, is a real let down. It's full of plot holes, it's very unrealistic and there is no explanation. After 2 hours of watching, you still don't know anything. Very disappointing.

The acting is good though, but even a good cast cannot make something out of nothing.

Loved this one. Don't believe the haters and just see for yourself. Brie Larson fits the character and does a good job.

Old, but not obsolete
22 July 2015
The story starts a bit confusing, but after a short time it's back to business. It's a great addition to the series and it's nice to see Arnold back in this role. The special effects are not always the best, but most parts look great. The new type terminator is great, but the old T800 is still not obsolete. The story is convincing enough and can be the prelude of new additions to this series. I hope Arnold will be part of these. It's a pity 3D is still the norm in most cinemas. This movie is best viewed in normal 2D. It's dark en there are no special benefits in 3D. The movie gives also a good critical note about our dependency of our smart-phones, tablets and the Internet integration. Genisys might be more true that we realize ;)

Not that bad
15 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, the story is a bit shallow, but this movie is better that the ratings suggest. I think it's partly caused by the 'taboo' subject. BDSM gives a lot of giggles and discomfort by many people. I heard it around me when I saw the movie with my sub. The acting is good. Especially the two main characters do an excellent job. The BDSM is for a vanilla movie in a good way shown. Many aspects are indeed how it works in the BDSM community, although some aspects are a bit over the top (contract), but it's the comic relief, the movie needs. The bindings were not always safe, but it's a movie, not an instruction manual. It's a pity the movie (and book I assume), suggests that a dominant, has a traumatized past. Well, that's not in the real world and most people choose the lifestyle , because they simply like it. Overall nice movie, good acting, it's a nice chick flick about a subject more people want to explore than they are willing to confess. ;)

Great characters and solid acting. In a convincing D/s love story.
25 January 2015
This was one of the movies I didn't saw before until recently and became an instant favorite of mine. The acting and scenes are very well played and very convincing. Mr. Grey isn't the perfect Dominant, but shows his emotions and own struggles. Lee isn't the perfect submissive either. They both are human. This movie shows exactly what D/s is about, namely own choice. The submissive has her own will and is the one in total control. I know some people don't understand and think mistakenly that BDSM is about mistreating the submissive. Cinemathography and music score are also very well done. Great movie and highly recommended.
