Magical

Wonderful storytelling, enjoyed every single moment. Fantastical hotel with baddies, eccentrics, evil schemes to thwart and a twisty plot. But also, framed with real pathos and nostalgia, and connected emotionally with true history and love and sadness. Watch this.

Excellent SF

One of my favorite movies about AI and robots. And I've seen a lot of them. Love the exploration of identity, slavery, the physical shapes of the robots, and all that this implies. Beautifully informed by biological forms. The story is quite pessimistic about future humans... but there is some courage and goodness in there too. Not to mention the always brilliant Antonio Banderas.

Giant monsters, guilty pleasure

I adored some of Del Toros more intellectual movies such as the Devils Backbone but this is just a romp and it is so much fun. It is really very well done with actors sneaking in some really good scenes and a lot of humour in between the monsters and robots. I also love that the giant robots have names like pole dancers.

Giant monster animals, the worst baddie plan ever, and Dwayne with a gorilla buddy. I found this very entertaining. A guilty pleasure.

Wonderful film

Absolutely wonderful acting, music, love, and rue friendship standing triumphant against horrible prejudice and racism. Leaves me hopeful. 10 stars is not enough.

Brilliant movie

Not only is this one of a tiny number of films in which women scientists, engineers and mathematicians actually seem like real people - it is fun and makes you feel happy, and the music is terrific too.

Good hearted magic realism

Warning: Spoilers
And nice acting in this one, with also beautiful scenery. It's a kids movie and would be good to watch with a young person. Quite sad, the boy's mum is dying, so tissues needed at the end!

Sword and Sorcery, relax and enjoy

Very good fun - fey witches in the woods, a magic sword with nasty intent, Marlin as a depraved who has lost his mojo but remains intensely witty and wise... loved it. Great graphics and CGI and beautiful scenery.

Some uneven acting and script writing, unfortunately with the central character Nimwe occasionally doing inexplicably silly or flouncy teenage-girl things. Other characters have much more to get their teeth into and are superb. There's a black robed figure who steals souls/lives and also faces... and a ninja crazy monk... and when Nimwe activates the trees to fight for justice, the results are scary.

I hope there is a series 2. Great escapism!
