Color Out of Space (2019)
I can't stop thinking about this film
Ok so I love nic cage so my opinion might be skewed but this film was amazing. Now more than a week later I just want to relive certain glorious scenes again. Perhaps I wont be brought to tears from laughter a second time but who knows, it's a crazy nic cage movie so it just might.
The Lighthouse (2019)
It's good with weed
I'm still watching this thing as I write this but it's a nice gay remake of the shining plus some birds from the birds.
Visitors (2013)
Soo maybe I'm a sociopath but....
I really liked the shot of the gorilla and also the buildings but I couldn't help but not care about the people so I went to write this review instead.
The pacing of the images adds up to a constant slow mo effect, which is nice but gets old quickly.
Being a Philip glass fan I can only like the music but to be fair I wouldn't put it on much by itself. I'd have rather liked to hear some crazy Einstein on the beach rhythms with these images, it might change the tempo and vibe a bit. Wait I can just listen to the album on my headphones and mute this.. later..
X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
Dark Puberty
The first half of this film felt like a cautionary tale on how to deal with someone becoming a drug addict (through the dark Phoenix) and how perceptions of one another can change because of this. However, the second part of this film seemed to push the idea that this was not just an accidental discovery, but rather a natural force being drawn to the main character, giving it the vibe of puberty hitting instead of drug addiction. At the end of the film her troubles are resolved through the typical male-feminist perspective, that is she has to control her emotions so she can have a valid place in the male dominated world of the x-men and is once again allowed to play along. After proving of course that she has moved passed her issues of desire (symbolised by the alien species who were for some reason invested in her new found abilities to spread life). Add some repressed childhood memories and (step)daddy issues and then have the whole thing end with her giving an uninspiring speech on how she has evolved and finally with the two most powerful men in the film laughing about deciding to play a game of chess and I guess you have a coming of age story that is meant to show you your place in society as a woman. Powerful stuff..
PS. The Rasta guy's hair superpower was hilarious. So 5/10 just for that.
