Young Sherlock Holmes (1985)
Mixture of childish scenes and horor movie
It is hard to figure out who this movie was intended for. It is a mix of non-plausible stuff that kids would enjoy and frightening scenes that are definitely not for children. Some of the deductions of Sherlock holmes were interesting but hardly worth the pain of watching the rest of the movie. Save your time!
A Home of Our Own (1993)
Could have been really nice - but it isn't.
Built into a very promising story line was continual bickering and profanity that ruined what would have been a decent family movie.
The Fighting Lady (1944)
Great color WWII action
Loved it! Forget the fact that this is a documentary - it is very interesting from beginning to end. Lots of color gun camera film throughout and shipboard crash landings. Very well done chronicle of a carrier and its mission in the Pacific during WWII.
The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit (1956)
Not worth watching
It is hard for me to understand all the glowing reviews of this film. After an hour and a half of discouraging drudge I finally turned it off. Life does not seem worth living for almost any character in this movie. I get more enjoyment going to the dentist. Maybe I missed an uplifting ending but I hardly believe that it could have changed my opinion of this film or lifted my spirit any.
You Can't Take It with You (1938)
One of My All Time Favorites
Wow. Started watching this one time with no expectations. Was delightfully entertained. Written by Frank Capra with some of the Its a Wonderful Life cast. The surprise is that the villain from "Life" is the beloved inspirational character in this one. Positively zany throughout but with a message. Especially liked Donald Meek as Poppins who liked to "invent things". Makes a definitely statement against the "rat race".
Island in the Sky (1953)
Real life story, great scenery, so so writing and acting
The story could have been really good but it did not deliver to its potential. It was worth watching to see the old planes in action, navigation methods tracking etc. The scenery was beautiful, but some looked like it was from the Alps, not eastern Canada. Acting, writing and direction was sometimes substandard. The actors seemed to have no idea of how cold 40 below is (especially when the wind is blowing).
