Lucky Shoes (2005)
Fun little film - shame it's an advert
This is a fun little film. (Lasting only 3 minutes, the word "little" seems appropriate)
Shot silent with an uplifting soundtrack, it tells the story of a man, down on his luck, who finds a pair of "lucky shoes" which changes his fortunes.
The biggest problem is that it is an advert for Adidas...which is a bit annoying...but in the world of the desperate, no-budget filmmaker sometimes we have to deal with this.
As an entry into an Adidas short film competition, the film tells us that in order to improve our fortunes all we need to do is get hold of some Adidas shoes.
But, if we forget about that, it turns out to be a good little film with some funny moments including a great grave-digging scene.
Worth taking a look over on their website.
Cannibal Hookers (1987)
80s Heart-eating faux-horreur
Cannibal Hookers isn't the worst film you could imagine. Despite the fact that it starts out in the manner of an 80s poorly shot porn film, it does actually manage to be better than that.
There has been an attempt to produce a storyline, however that has clearly failed.
Whilst the acting is most unnatural, the camera work is dodgy and the script is pure rubbish, the saving grace of this film is the fact that it does break away from conventions of the cannibal sub-genre.
Firstly, these are causcasian, ugly, Californian women who are the cannibals, not Amazonians in grass skirts. Also the most absurd aspect of the plot bridges the gap between the cannibal and vampire genres, a feat, to my knowledge, attempted by no other filmmaker.
In summary, this film is not to be watched in any seriousness. It is, and hopefully was intended to be, a trashy, no budget video release designed for those who find cannibalism, 80s hairstyles and vaseline filtered glamour photography amusing.
Cheerleader Autopsy (2003)
Unfunny
Cheerleader Autopsy clearly was made on a very low budget. It's an ambitious attempt and clearly a large amount of effort has been employed to produce sets and arrange it's production.
The problem is that whilst lengths have been taken to provide the odd bit of nudity and appalling attempt at slap stick wit, the story and script are appalling.
"Let's get out there and make a film" they might have said. What they should have said is "Let's get out there and make a GOOD film"
Given the premise, and the fact that the film has clearly been marketed well enough for me to have seen it, it's a shame no effort was made to produce quality, otherwise they'd have had an audience and maybe made a future for themselves.
