Tamnaneun doda (2009)
Evolution of Korean Film
The first few moments of "Tamnaneun doda" may seem childish. However, if you can get past it, this drama takes off to the sky!
Humor! Action! Suspense! Romance! Amazing acting! Cuteness! See the history and culture of Jeju Island and see the beautiful scenery! I can not say enough good things about this drama.
However, beware. This drama is very controversial and can be offending. Which may be why this drama is given 10 stars by some and 0 stars by some others. The only minor thing I will complain about is that the drama loses some momentum two-thirds in. A thrilling ride nonetheless.
Comedy in Korean film is rare. Especially in dramas. The only other Korean dramas I've seen that pulls it off this well is "Full House"(2004) and "Lie to me."(2011) This alone and the fact that "Tamnaneun doda" breaks new boundaries, I give it 10/10.
Wondeopul Radio (2012)
Speedy Scandal Spin
"Wonderful Radio," uses a few ideas from the blockbuster "Speedy Scandal," and the popular drama "The Greatest Love." This, and having Lee Min Jung as the female lead may seem like a prosperous combination. And it was, by performing fairly in theaters. Yet, what a disappointment.
The plot is weak. The characters are elementary. Chemistry between the two leads is not there. The story is not believable, and the ideas are not original.
With all said, the film is not a total loss. There are some adorable scenes and light humor. However, if you are not a fan of Lee Min Jung, avoid this b-flick.
O-ssak-han yeon-ae (2011)
Humor+Horror+Romance=
Original and interesting. Like L HH said, this film is one of a kind. However, there are so many stops, "Chilling Romance" never takes off and loses momentum.
This film makes a brave attempt to mash difficult genres. The end result is a dish that is hard to swallow, but somewhat edible. I was not satisfied with "Chilling Romance," because the story was not engaging and progressed roughly. I want to blame someone whether it's the director, editor, screenwriter, or all three.
The multi-talented actress Son Ye Jin saved this film from disaster. Always surprising her fans with new and unique roles.
All in all, if you want try something new, give "Chilling Romance" a try.
