Lists
An error has ocurred. Please try againBelow are the main criteria for a film that deserves the title of "the greatest film ever made," and it is as follows:
1. It has to be well made and extraordinary in every sense, to be of great quality, potential flaws shouldn't be noticeable.
2. It has to be entertaining, but still contain one or more important messages or a meaning.
3. It has to be greatly successful and recieving great praise, with many great reviews, leading in several polls, recieving several (both great and small) award-nominations and -wins, having spectacular box office results, be a big seller on home video, and with a great fan-circle growing around it all over the world.
4. It has to speak to, be understandable and be entertaining for and suit everyone or anyone; kids, teens, adults, and elders alike, regardless of gender.
5. It has to be of historical (not necessarily referring to actual events in history) significance.
6. + I, the viewer and reviewer, must experience and admit that the film is "the greatest." Which I do, although this last paragraph might not really be necessary in the bigger picture.
The picture featured on first place is the only film that has nailed all of the points above, whereas movies below it only contain parts of the necessary criteria or are of some other great significance. Please note that the current position of some films below the film on first place might change and that this list is still under construction. Also note that several films should have been placed on a shared position in the list but due to the structure of the IMDb-list that cannot be achieved.

The Lego Movie (2014)
Good, but Heavily Overrated
SMALL SPOILER AT THE END, but it's really nothing to worry about.
So, basically, from nowhere this movie shows suddenly shows up, and I'm thinking this will be just the commonly considered ordinary good/average kids-movie of the year, but it doesn't quite turn out that way, something's not right. People suddenly starts to over-hype the film and calling it a "masterpiece" and "the greatest animation" and such. I see a trailer of the movie in the theatre and think it looks weird but interesting. I decide not to watch it in theatres, and after watching it online it appears I was pretty much right in not wasting my money on this film. Now I'm gonna say this: I liked the film, as I'm a Lego-fan since childhood and thought it was really funny and promoted a good message. BUT, as the title says, this movie is HEAVILY overrated and not at all deserving of all the praise it has got at this point.
Seriously, 96% approval at Rotten Tomatoes? I'm not really the type that cares a lot about online ratings, but SERIOUSLY?! (the reviewers at Rotten Tomatoes REALLY needs a slap to the face as a wake-up call) Honestly, I'm thinking like a lot of other people, this film is just famous for the moment and will be practically forgotten by the end of the year. It's really startling to think people would actually see this film more than one or two times and call it better than the greatest animated film (aswell as THE greatest film ever) made; the Oscar-winning masterpiece Frozen. No, "The Lego Movie" does not live up to its hype at all. "Everything is awesome", yeah (kinda catchy tune by the way, but it's no "Let It Go"), but there's no chance this film is anything like a "masterpiece". But I guess, being a kids-movie, I guess the film's success/praise should be treated from this perspective. Bottom line, it's a good, funny, and entertaining movie (not great), I enjoyed it, but it's very, very overrated, and I'm expecting this to end very soon. By the way: "SPACESHIP! SPACESHIP!! SPACESHIP!!!" Could be the most hilarious moment in the whole movie.
Frozen (2013)
The Greatest Motion Picture in History
I must say, I have never in my entire life experienced a film quite like this one before. "Frozen" is simply the greatest saga ever told on the big screen, it is the only movie that actually made me cry. It brought me great pleasures and tears of both joy and sadness, and it simply blew my mind away at how spectacular it really was. In later years, I had practically distanced myself from Disney-films, and the first time I found out about the film through an early trailer (not the one with Olaf and Sven), that made it look like a really sloppy and goofy work, I thought Disney might really have lost their way and their sense of quality, I wasn't excited at all, I thought it would seem like any ordinary moderate movie that maybe a few people might watch.
A little time after I'd seen the trailer, and received extremely low expectations, a family member showed me a low-quality online-version of the movie (that someone apparently had stolen and uploaded onto an unheard-of-website on the world wide web). I was asked if I wanted to watch it, and although I was a bit sceptical and kind of didn't want to watch it, we ended up watching it. So here we were, watching this movie that I had no high hopes for at all, and then all of a sudden, the moment it started, I had a mysterious feeling. Despite the bad quality of this online-version, I was immediately hooked, and from there on, to my great surprise, it was just getting better and better.
When the movie had ended, I needed to sit back for a while and comprehend what I had just witnessed. I came to one extraordinary and absolute conclusion; I had just seen the greatest movie I had ever experienced, and a movie well worthy of the title of "the greatest movie ever made." It came as the biggest and most welcome surprise. It was at that very moment I decided that this is really a movie that I would love to experience in great quality on the full big screen of a movie theatre, and I saw it several times, and every time I came out crying and being deeply satisfied. This film really succeeded to touch me deep into my heart and soul.
"Frozen" is really (and this just cannot simply be said in just one word) a stunning, iconic, epic, chilling, flawless, exciting, fascinating, powerful, beautiful, charming, magical, fantastic, amazing, spectacular, and utterly unforgettable masterpiece of a film that is really made for the whole family; boys and girls of all ages; kids, teens, adults and elders alike. Honestly, the most heartwarming movie of all time, and an instant cult-classic that will undoubtedly be "watched and loved for generations!" Is it worth noting the film even takes place in a Scandinavian land inspired by what is often labeled as "the most beautiful country in the whole world?" The movie (based upon the old 1800's-saga by H.C. Andersen) that Walt Disney himself started working on 70 years ago, as one of the first Disney-produced feature films, and that the company continued to develop later on, and it was now finally released and turned out to be their greatest success (earning 2 well deserved Oscars and a Golden Globe, along with receiving the title of "the highest grossing animated film of all time" and currently being on 6th place among the top ten highest grossing films of all time, and still going higher and staying strong). It really made me feel like I was watching a great good old classic from the 1900's, and I had suddenly rediscovered my love for Disney-films.
This is now my #1 favourite movie, and I'll definitely buy it on DVD/Blu-ray when I find it in the store, it goes to my collection right away, along with the phenomenal soundtrack of course. This is simply and evidently, the greatest motion picture in history.
Godzilla (1998)
Awesome monster thrill ride original nostalgic masterpiece!
Godzilla is truly a very well made success movie, with excellent special effects, great acting, and with a great realistic story! I just cant help but love this masterpiece film which I've loved since I was a kid. It is a true nostalgic film that I can watch any day. This is practically the best Godzilla-film I've ever seen, as the original from 1954/56 comes in second place and the rest right after. This film finally shows a Godzilla/Godzilla-monster that many people, who never really were fans nor impressed by the earlier Godzilla films and creatures, can love. The idea of taking Godzilla in a more realistic way was just great and it gave us the more realistic, cooler, and more lovable animal-like Godzilla that many of us always wanted. It is a thrill ride from the beginning to the end. I can literally watch it anytime.
I really recommend this masterpiece of a monster/Godzilla-film. You can't do more than love it! The film really have great scenes with great animation and other special effects, it has all from cool, awesome, thrilling scenes to great love scenes, especially between the two characters that are played by Maria Pitillo and Matthew Broderick, they really were the best ones for the roles in this film, it's unforgettable, in a good way. There are really many great ideas and details in this film which many, especially haters, doesn't notice or just simply ignores, which is sad because of the genius story which makes this film so very special and which have inspired later Godzilla films and merchandise and really has an amazing legacy behind it. I recommend this film to everyone! It's certainly worth watching.
Dragons or Dinosaurs? (2010)
Fascinating wake up call
This documentary is very well made, very interesting and fascinating in the way new and obviously correct facts are being brought up upon the chosen topic of the documentary. Though it is well explained, it leaves minor holes in the overall picture, but all in all, it all seems very clear after watching this film and after looking further into the subject. This is appearantly one big masterpiece in the creation/evolution debate. It really paints a clear picture of our world and people's experiences and some people's ignorant minds which work against such ideas which the film brings up.
Those people wants to hold on to the tradition of ignoring the obvious, the truth which have been in front of our eyes for so long, and they will never even think about changing their view, not even if undeniable evidence, such as those that this film brings up, will be shown. The documentary has it's few holes, but all in all it really puts the puzzle together very, very well. I'm proud to see these brave people creating this outstanding documentary which will change many people's minds and let us actually see the obvious truth for ourselves. It will truly help us understand our modern world. This is truly one of the best documentaries available. If you really take the time and effort, you really can create something as great as this.
