The Clowns (2019)
The Clowns: Success of a failure
The Clowns tells the story of three aspiring artists who fly to Brazil to present their short at the World Short Film Cup.
One would think at first that it is a Road movie, which will deal with the characters' journey to the festival, however, they soon collide with reality and we found that the short film was not good enough, it was not well understood and it remains Eliminated in the first round, the intention to make a documentary about the journey to glory collapses. And other kinds of questions arise like what is the reason we do this? , questions that every artist at the moment when life does not work the way they want, asks that question. Once they are eliminated from the tournament, they decide to continue filming their adventures throughout Brazil, without much to think about, film for film, to try to compensate for the disappointment.
The trip ends and the disappointment remains, they could never finish the film / documentary that they recorded about the trip nor did they find the end of the documentary, they had many hours of recording, but without knowing what to do with them.
It takes 3 years to close his project, and in that time, one of the actors in the film has already progressed as an artist, is famous and knows where he is and where he is going.
Instead, the directors of the documentary still do not know what to do, this is where they look for editors to make a good montage and give an end to their film, and they realize that the best way to end it is to call Jero.
It is a film that talks about the concerns and challenges involved in working in audiovisual production, about all the problems that arise and about how far is the dream of every filmmaker to have his work recognized. At the same time that the barrier between documentary and fiction is not entirely clear, one of the editors very well defines the latter, if this were fiction as the viewer would know?, It is not entirely clear if the short was made in truth or if it is all part of the script of the story, it could be a false documentary, a docu fiction.
It is worth saying that this tension between fiction-reality is already raised from the short film itself. Within the short, there are two clowns. One played by Jero Freixas and the other when seeing but we do not know in depth anything of the life of who interprets it. Throughout the film itself, we will witness two "clowns" (perfect terms for their tragicomic sense) who will wander aimlessly. One of them, Jero Freixas, will be the unrecognized protagonist. The entertainer. The funny We know your workplace, we know you are with your partner and we can differentiate you from the rest. The director of his partner, Lucas Bucci, knows nothing of his personal life.
The clowns is a highly recommended film for all the people who faced the risks of making their projects recognized and who failed, however, in this failure, the clowns find a story to tell.
That, perhaps, is the best decision of the film as soon as it will face the dream with the reality, abandoning all epic to the defeatism and going to concentrate on what really matters, what are we going to do this? What have we come to say? What have we come to show? What is this fascination with fame? ", A huge series of existential questions that are awakened and that can sometimes become answers because they exceed the human being. They almost expose the artist's dichotomy: Do, think, do or think, think while doing, ask while doing think, all at once.
El hombre de al lado (2009)
El hombre de al lado
What you see in history is a matter of class struggle, perhaps, refining a little more, the problem of classism. From where and because the contemptuous glance towards the other begins. The film does well in that what bothers the character is that his neighbor wants "to have a bit of the sun that he has". And it is very likely that if his character was a more agreed person with whom he usually deals, he would not have had a problem, an educated person.
The same happens with tourists who want to see the design of their house, some let them pass and others do not. I highlight a phrase that says at one point, "the damage wikipedia did to people", implying that I do not want there to be free information for everyone and that it is more reserved.
But also the window that the neighbor is placing, is not only going to leave his house bare, but his problems, brings out the worst in him. That description he gives of his neighbor, the "fat", is on many occasions what he is also, only that nobody tells him anything because they respect him. An example of this is the scene where a student is going to visit him and he wants to sleep with her, when, previous nights, he criticized his neighbor for inviting a young girl to sleep with him. Only his social class, elitism, allows it, somehow.
Not only does he stay in that, but that window also unbalances his wife, who begins to spit on her husband, decides to tell them the things she keeps.
It seems to me that the fact that the house is an architectural work is also related to notable social differences.
The constant noise of the neighbor breaking the wall reminded me a lot of what was happening in "Casa taken" with strange and annoying noises while the order was interrupted. And taken home, it also takes the elements of cultural value that the characters possess. What happens in the film, that from the other side, Victor can see part of what Leonardo owns.
I also rescue that Leonardo's daughter is the only character that somehow sympathizes with the stranger, it probably has to do with what is the only one in the house with any conscience beyond her elitism, by the poster of Che Guevara who have in your room. Also because of this contradiction, she refuses to listen to her father.
I like the fog scene, I think that is when the character breaks, he is at a high level of helplessness. And that reveals what behind his success, there is a gap with his family.
However, it seems to me that the conclusion is wrong. I was hoping that the movie will explode in the end, and that the worlds confront each other in a better way, but the movie, instead, scrapped its conflict, got rid of it, instead of doing something. Obviously the evaluation of a film does not change at the end, but in this case, it ends up leaving a bitter drink, because another path could have been explored .
Transylvania 6-5000 (1985)
It's not that bad, but it could be a great movie if Mel Brooks had directed it
Recently I saw the Transylvania 6-500 movie after a long time and I was hoping to find something really bad, but luckily, it is not so, although it could be better, a great parody, a parody that eventually becomes classic.
Some of the ideas of the film are well used, as can be mentioned the fejos character or the nymphomaniac odette. The plot is not very complex, it is a good plot for a film that you do not expect much, but you end up enjoying certain acceptable comedy passages. It ends up being a movie that could quietly be seen on a Friday evening, to kill time, and it will bring you a smile.
Some ideas are very trite or quite used as the skeptical character and in its counterpart, the conspiranoid. And this pair is understood quite well on the screen, among other ideas already worn, is the one of the protagonist's loving companion woman.
However, it is thanks to the quota of humor that each character of ours that the movie ends up being something remembered, will be more remembered for some good scenes of radu or fejos, or the nymphomaniac.
The final twist that the film ends up giving does not fall so much on the idea that the place is haunted and all that, but that they are experiments to improve people's lives. And luckily, the newspaper found its good story.
It may not have the best story, and it may be a movie to kill time or have a good time, but it works. Despite its happy ending.
Perhaps if Mel Brooks had directed it, she would have added some better plot twists and improved parodies that are being attempted, since he already had experience parodying the horror genre with "Young Frankestein"
If you want to watch a movie that takes you for a while and eat your story if you think hard, this movie is a good option.
Psiconautas (2016)
A fresh and hilarious Argentine sitcom with good performances
The plot is simple: Spanish swindler (Toledo) is sent to lead a dysfunctional neighborhood therapy session. This chanta become therapist must deal with the assistants, finding more problems than solutions for those people where one is more crazy than the other. Paranoias, narcissism, charlatanism, delusions of grandeur, everything is exposed to the force of laughter.
After having seen the first season of this series I have concluded that the show is really fun. The succession of gags accomplishes something very complicated these days: make people laugh. We are full of comedies that are not funny and luckily the premiere of Psiconautas in TBS is not the case. Disguised as a comedy of manners, it honors the screen on which it is broadcast, presenting a cynical and acid look towards the worst of ourselves. The new miniseries "manages to mock and exploit several stereotypes of therapy using a humor close to the grotesque." The characters are very well achieved and developed, highlighting also the performances of the cast, a cast with a lot of chemistry and reperto of great actors. highlights the performances of Martin Piroyansky as Axel, Guillermo Toledo as Roberto, Julieta Zylberberg as Jéssica and Verónica Llinás as Emilce.
