Save Me (2018)
Enjoyable - But
I must say that my wife and I enjoyed this all the way... to the second last episode.
Acting overall was very good, great characters delivered with believable emotions and behavior. The story line was gripping albeit it sobering and there were enough twists and curves to make it draw us along nicely.
I agree with a few others here the main character was frustrating, made some stupid decisions along the way with most of them being unbelievable in a real life scenario. That said, a solid delivery.
The accents though - wow - hard to understand along with the slang. The old brain really had to work hard on occasions. Do poms from that neck of the wood really speak like that ? A country within a country so to speak.
After all that though - the ending was pathetic. Really. Just dumb and annoying and again given the circumstances and the relationships, no one would do that in my opinion. This is what left us at the end thinking that while the episodes kept us entertained for a number of nights, the end that was scripted, well, for us, was it worth the effort. You decide ... A higher score if not for the ending.
Absentia (2017)
Whispering and plot holes unravels potential
Far from being awful, yet far from being a show you are eagerly anticipating the next episode.
Many holes in the plot and frankly it just doesn't make logical sense as you progress. I'm up to episode 4 and trying to hang in there but each episode seems to throw up a writing / plot flaw.
Patrick Heusinger (Nick) is really quite terrible as a key player in this. His acting is well below par and as others have said, he has pretty much one and only one facial expression that reminds me of a sad kid looking for someone to pay him some attention.
"Nick" is by no means a firm decisive FBI agent or a character that is in control whether he is with his wife or on the job. I will put this down to the writing, but intrinsically attached to the that is the very poor acting on his part.
And the cherry on top that makes this a show that is painful to watch, is the way Patrick Heusinger speaks - or should I say whispers. I thought Kiefer Sutherland had that voice play patented but it appears not. As annoying as it is listening to Kiefer in, well all his movies but certainly Designated Survivor, Patrick Heusinger's takeoff of the whisper voice is totally distracting in Absentia and further weakens the character, thus unraveling whatever other attempts are being made to hold this show up.
Life (2017)
I should have read the Reviews
The only reason I gave this a 2 was for the effects and the tech that is seen through the movie. As to the story, the logic, oh yes especially the logic, and the plot, this movie barely scores.
It did start out fine as a few have have written, however it deteriorated very quickly. Many others have described better than I could the many errors in this movie. The so many illogical moves for so called highly trained professionals (not actors but space explorers and scientists). Decisions that even untrained explorers would not make that subsequently ate into the fabric of the story and the experience causing one to become detached from the movie. So very disappointing for a movie that had so much potential. Bad plot, bad script, bad directing.
Suffice to say the ending - so lame, I knew what was going to happen before it did.
I can't see this movie making much of a profit if at all.
Mind you there was one and only one enjoyable component to this movie - the closing song :)
Day of the Mummy (2014)
1 hour and 20 minutes of my life I will never get back
What a load of Rubbish.
1 hour and 20 minutes of my life I will never get back. Although as I had it on fast forward much of the time due to no dialog taking place perhaps only an hour lost.
Shocking acting and lousy story line.
I should have known as Danny Glover was listed. A cameo role. Seems like all these "has been" actors are nowadays giving up 15 minutes of their time to appear briefly in a "B" or "C" grade movie so they can get a cut.
Don't bother with this at all.
Wolf Creek 2 (2013)
Unimpressed
Another classic piece of Australian Rubbish.
Hardly any script associated with this movie, nothing that made much sense or was worth listening to anyway. A lot of gore, running, being chased, and over acting by John Jarret.
The characters were not appealing. With a poor script and poor acting it wasn't possible to get attached to the movie. A lot of yelling and screaming does not make a good horror film. It needs charisma, which this lacks by a ton.
Really the script was shocking, laughable.
Some time in my life I would like back.
Gravity (2013)
LAME... Sooooo Lame
This was absolute rubbish. Great special effects, but that is all.
The script was terrible, it was so cliché' what little there was.
There was some degree of suspense occasionally which helped keep the movie alive.
Even down to the stupid embryo scene when she enters the capsule and floats into the embryo position with the pipes hanging down in the background to simulate the umbilical cord.
Quite a number of obvious non-space conditions which spoiled the spacey environment.
As I said, LAME !
