Yellowstone: Half the Money (2021)
Keeps Getting Worse
Soooo predictable. Lets see...lets make this like the Corleone Cowboys...all bad guys go after the family...try to wipe them out...now its time for revenge. This show is so bad....everything is set up that only a deaf blind person would not be able to figure out what comes next. I cant wait to hear Costner say...today we take care of all family business. End this misery...now!
Yellowstone (2018)
Cowboy Thugs
Costner grew up in Cali, bought a place in Montana and thought it would be cool to produce a series about ranching and everything that goes with it. This rates almost as bad as that movie Waterworld he was in. What a stretch this thing is. I am supposed to believe that all this crime just happens to happen against this beautiful Montana background? Including lets not kill grizzly bears...how pathetic that scene was. Nice try Kevin but Im not buying into this ridiculous story. This is nothing more than an X rated soap opera. Its really about a family of low life western thugs. Characters are not believable, story is a joke, full of terrible cliches. Cowboys vs Indians vs Tycoons...ya right. At least TRY to make it believable. I give it a 3 because it does have some decent production value...I credit the director for that. What a bore!
Air Force One (1997)
How embarrassing.
What a complete waste of film. How can anyone attached to this absolute piece of trash be proud to have their name on the credits? They could have spent the $85 mill budget on cleaning up plastic from the oceans. This is what happens when Hollywood relies on script readers to pick the winners lol.
The Predator (2018)
What an insult!!!
This is what happens when you hire a wannabe actor, terrible writer to direct a sequel that should never have been made. What an insult to the original movie. It doesnt surprise me as everyone of Black's projects are trashy formula movies. The script in this is awful. They took a good idea and turned it into a cheap scifi comedy. ..In addition the actors are miscast...sorry Boyd you belong in a remake of Dukes of Hazzard. There is zero credibility in this film. At least in the original the characters were human. In this trash they are superhuman. We dont need the gift at the end of this movie to fight future predators ... Boyd already proved he can do it on his own. Hey Shane time for you to find a new career. Skip this movie and please no more sequels.
Bad Blood (2017)
Season 1 not bad....Season 2 hmmm
I just want to review season 2. Good effort but guys you need to work on a lot of areas. The biggest problem I had was with credibility. How can Declan with no foot soldiers possibly maintain the image that he does? Other than a truck driver we really do not see who Declan has on his side. No way one person could orchestrate what he does. After he loses his Mexican connection where is he getting these drugs from? That was his biggest trump card and it really needed to be explained better.
His Italian mob adversaries Cosoleto's were nothing more than 2 brothers and their 2 sons..thats it...not what I would call a powerful mob family. We never see what they do to earn money, never see any of their soldiers or associates. The bikers were for me the most credible. The twins were just not believable. Why would a mob father from Italy who never sees them send them on any mission let alone this one?
The script was ok but weak in many areas. It just felt like lines were inserted for effect but not to lead the story along. Also people in the real criminal world react much differently...they simply do not attend birthday parties of informants. Season two needed at least one more A list actor in it. These actors were good but I found some were miscast for sure. Some other observation...Good cinematography and direction, music was so so, editing was predictable. If there is a season 3 bring in a couple of more seasoned writers, another big name to match Kim Coates on the screen and get back to basing the script on the real Canadian mob/biker undeworld.
Papillon (1973)
A great movie
I just do not understand the bad reviews this movie gets. I thought it was a great story. It was definitely well shot and for me had enough action and suspense to keep me interested. I see so many critics complaining that they didnt care about the characters? Why? Is it because they are not flawless? Please see this movie...it is rare that you will see another of its calibre again.
Ray Donovan: The Dead (2019)
Out with the bad....lets get back to high octane!
I can honestly say that this is the best TV series I have watched since Sopranos. Seasons 1-4 were brilliant. Seasons 5 and 6 went from high gear to low gear. I think it was inevitable. I am glad to see this season finale end the way it did. Some satisfaction with loose ends but more importantly the Donovan family is together ...more than ever. But for the last time I fear. Jon Voight as Mick is superb all the way through but in this finale he puts out one of his finer performances. He finally starts to act as a father. I am afraid that season 7 will probably be the last season and as such I do not forsee a happy ending. This family is walking a tight rope and the line is about to snap. We are left with questions from this episode. I am sure they will be answered in season 7. The answers that come will not be happy ones. As for Ray himself I think the fuse has been lit. I see no other ending but a dark one for him. I just hope they take us back into high gear for season 7.
War for the Planet of the Apes (2017)
Get us back to the original
As much as I liked this trilogy and this movie I really wish they would lean more towards getting us closer in time to the original 1968 version. I understand these are prequels but if they are going to continue with these then I suggest fast forwarding a thousand years or more to just before when Heston arrives in the original 1968 classic. War was a good movie. I truly liked everything about it. I see the humans turning mute setting us up for the future. What I really want to see next is what caused the future nuclear holocaust? Show me what went on in the forbidden zone prior to Heston and crew arriving. Show us how the mutants from Beneath the Planet of the Apes came to be. If the ending of this movie was a foreshadowing of the lake that Heston crash lands in then we are going to have a problem. Remember he landed outside of New York City not over the mountains near California. Perhaps another trilogy can tie up these loose ends.
Suburra - La serie (2017)
Excellent Television.
As I watched this series I thought of Breaking Bad. In a way it is like that series because it feels like the same....like a slow whirlpool digressing from episode to episode into the abyss. In the criminal world one step forward is really like two steps backwards. Unlike Breaking Bad here we have many characters that are all caught in the whirlpool not just one central figure. This series masterfully shows how corruption can poison every walk of life and there is no better setting than in Rome. The cinematography is beautiful and well lit. The production design and the sets are outstanding. The Gypsy home is so well done it deserves an award. The characters are developed better than most series ... they come across as real people. The story behind it all is excellent and lets be honest that is the most important thing. As with any dramatic series some relationships and circumstance do seem a bit contrived but for the sake of time it needs to be that way. Its cleverly done. Each episode starts with a flash forward to the end and we are flashed back to the previous day leading up to that moment. I thought it worked well. There are so many series to choose from out there but do take the time to watch this one. Its worth it. Two thumbs up on this one...way up.
Suburra (2015)
Apocalypse...Roman Style.
Italian cinema is alive and well. Saying this is time well spent is an understatement. If you like dark movies that explore the absolute demon inside all of us then this is for you. The movie really is a masterpiece. The movie moves like a 24 hour road race. There is no bright light at the end of the tunnel. You know that all these characters are headed to unhappy end since the movie counts you down to the apocalypse. But the way the movie takes you there is what I love. I don't remember a movie that was so cold hearted as this is...and thats what makes it so good. You love and hate these characters at the same time. Some very strong performances complimented with a great script add to this movies excellence. This dark film is beautifully textured visually...lots of scenes in pouring rain to further put you in the mood that Im sure the director intended. Do not miss this one!
