Squid Game: The Challenge (2023)
Not season 2, a game show based on the show but pretty good
People who are criticising this clearly didn't watch the trailers or the synopsis and just assumed what they wanted. This was never marketed as a follow up to Squid Show. This was always marketed as a game show based on the TV show. That said it is pretty entertaining. It quickly shows the duplicitousness of human nature. The contestants regularly try to trick and scheme with each other to get others eliminated and there is plenty of two faced behaviour. It shows how easy some people are preyed on by others and how trusting people you have only just met is always a mistake. Some contestants instantly draw the ire of others and become a target but it's not as easy to eliminate them as they hoped. The total prize is over $4m and the contestants learn that all isn't as it seems in getting to win it. Very entertaining.
Velma (2023)
Absolutely awful
Absolutely awful. They have just used the names from Scooby Doo and changed the characters so they are unrecognisable. Why not just make an entirely new show instead of ruining a classic. Don't bother wasting your time with this it simply isn't worth it. The writing and story lines are simply awful. The characters are awful. The animation is awful. It appear they have just had a meeting and collected all the worst ideas and thought they should just use them. The voice acting isn't good, the script is poor. This is so far from the classic that they have forever soiled the name of Scooby Doo. Awful.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
It's not great but not bad
The acting isn't great in fact it's very poor. The visuals are very good though and the scenery is incredible. That's the only real good side to it. The story seems to drag quite a bit and it is slow. Some of the lines are incredibly cringe worthy. It's not as bad as some are making out but it certainly isn't as good as others are saying it is. It's average at best. The casting is all over the place and every family is not believable. The characters are not believable and the majority of the elves have been cast with very wooden monotone actors. The hobbits have all been cast to bring a light comedy element but seem utterly pointless to the story. It's not bad, it's not great. It is very very average. If it lasts 6 seasons as been rumoured I would be very surprised.
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
It's okay
The acting of John boyega and daisy ridley is just terrible. Their caring seems limited to breathing quickly and looking panicked. Whoever casted them should never work in film again as they are nowhere near good enough to carry a massive franchise like Star Wars. The story is basically a new hope, with more cgi and poorer acting.
Hollington Drive (2021)
Quite boring
I persevered until the end. I found it quite boring and very slow paced. It had so much potential from what they alluded to in the first episode then it just turned into a poor drama revolving around two quarrelling jealous sisters, with the big reveal coming about suddenly and leaves a sense of "is that it?" The acting was largely poor and quite wooden.
Pet Sematary (2019)
Poor
It just isn't very good. It feels very rushed and changes far too much from the novel that it just isn't scary. There is no establishment of relationships between Jud and Louis. Jud first meets Ellie in the woods and removes a stinger from her leg, her mother appears and ushers her away. Minutes later she is walking into his house and invites him to dinner. Just not a good adaptation at all. Makes references that if you didn't read the novel would make no sense.
The Bye Bye Man (2017)
Boring
The film isn't really entertaining or scary. There is no suspense to it whatsoever. The antagonist is truly laughable and looks like something out of power rangers. The acting of two of the lead characters is truly awful, the girl and her boyfriend are just really bad actors who can't lead a conga line let alone a film. Lucien Laviscount puts in a good performance. The only one in the film mind. The concept could have been great but bad acting and story means you should really miss it.
