Biswa Kalyan Rath: Mood Kharaab (2023)
Not interesting at all
Biswa has not been doing comedy for a long time and it clearly shows in this standup special. The jokes are out of date and simply don't land.
Biswa used to do average comedy, but at least once in a while you'd find funny jokes, but this standup was painful to sit through. Even at the length of mere 52 minutes, I found myself looking at the watch again and again and hoping for some jokes that can make me laugh, but I didn't even chuckle for the episode, let alone laugh.
It's time for Amazon Prime to reevaluate on how they choose comics to do a special. The new age comedians like Bassi are doing great job, while Biswa feels like a relic of bygone era.
The Blacklist: Nachalo (2021)
Hilariously bad
The writers and creators of this show have stretched the story for so long they don't even know what to do with it any more. I don't know how other reviewers think that this is a great episode. If you follow the story, it's pretty obvious that there are so many plot holes because story was made up.
Nothing in this episode was actually new, just writers poor attempt to plug the holes. It's obvious where this story is heading and that theory has never made sense from the beginning, but that's the only way left for the writers now. 1/10.
Coolie No.1 (2020)
Absolutely unnecessary movie
The original Coolie No. 1 (1995) was not a good movie to begin with, though it probably worked because of Govinda's spontaneity. The film does not age well for today's audience and yet David Dhawan remade this film without any change in the script and just straight up remade it frame-to-frame. A big no-no. Skip.
Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005)
Poor movie...
One of the most awaited film of 2005. Aamir Khan, the perfectionist, making come back to silver screen after 4 years and that too with director who has given memorable films like 'Bhavni Bhavai', 'Mirch Masala' and strong 'Sardar', with claims of the biggest (in terms of budget) Indian "period" film.Does it live up to expectations?? Answer : a big NO.
Mangal Pandey, who is considered to be the first martyr of Indian Freedom Struggle, has raised lot of controversy in recent times, but then controversies always surround period films. Was he really a brave soldier or an accidental hero? The act he did was a bravery or foolishness under effect of bhang? no certain answer. It's a dare act to make a period film where little information is available, but there are other aspects too apart from story, COHERENCE being one of them, but Mangal Pandey strongly lacks that. Characters are not portrayed properly either. Film should better have been called "Mangal and Gordon" Add to all these negatives, music created by maestro, A. R. Rehman, who in general never fails to entertain has failed this time. Music lacks the magic and songs are unnecessary placed at various places. Only good and relevant song was the title song "Mangal Mangal..". As a satire, someone said, this song is played 3-4 times throughout the movie and keeps repeating line "Jaago Jaago Ab Tum.. Neend Mein Ho Kyun Tum". This is played repeatedly to address the the audience of the movie :-)
There are certain positive points without doubt. Aamir Khan, as usual, is first rate, He has delivered with perfection to portray the character of the warrior. Some sequences are executed really well. Especially the satirical scene where the snake is passing through the bodies but doesn't bite either. Even the snake doesn't bite without purpose, but East India Company can kill innocent villagers without any reason and the scene where Mangal holds the torch and asks the question (pointing to difference of color of the skin) " Is farak ko kaise mitaoge sahab?" but film fails to deliver as a period or patriotic movie, unlike The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
Costumes (fancy dress party), Camera-work is good. Toby Stephens, although not well defined character, delivers good performance. Female leads, Rani and Amisha doesn't have much scope. Mukesh Tiwari and Kiron Kher are good in their cameo.
Rating :- 5/10 (Strictly OK)
Dus (2005)
DUS : Worst movie of the year...
.. few Priyadarshan movies are yet to be released in this year, but I bet you won't find any of them funnier than this creation of Anubhav Sinha. We were laughing like anything when we came out of hall after watching "Thriller" DUS.
so here is a plot. wait a minute... was there anything like plot? probably there was. Few brave men from ATC(Anti Terrorist Cell, cool isn't it?)decide to save a big jeopardy which they even don't know about except that it was going to happen on 10th May, but these are brave soldiers. Now IMDb tells me that Naa Tum Jaano Naa Hum and Ab Ke Baras were released on 10th May, but probably more dangerous disaster exist in world, so they are searching for it. After some furious action and some "relay bombing" (as Suniel Shetty can't directly throw grenade, he would pass on that to Zayed and eventually Zayed on flying bike would throw that into car and before grenade could explode lo! Zayed is standing beside Jr. AB and Shetty in order to give that high-profile action movie look). Well they have found some clues and caught a man who helps them in searching the villain Jamaal or Jambal or Jamval or something like that... and when finally so called Jamaal is killed Sanjay Dutt tells them that man who pointed them to Jamaal he himself was Jamaal. Shut up you all morons if you said that this is copied from 'Usual Suspects'. Our intelligent ATC chief Dutt Jr. finds out that disaster is going to happen at stadium. Now at the climax, they found out where bomb is and AB Jr. is on plane with disastrous C-4. Only way he could save Canada is that he jumps along with plane and his love Esha Deol, wait but somebody said she was traitor, but she has to die anyway. and then starts eternal dilemma. Whether Abhishek should die and save people or He should leave Canada to God. Everybody forces him to leave the plane, but he is "true soldier" and saves Canada. May his soul rest in peace.
I strongly recommend that everyone should see last 15 minutes of this movie (if you manage to survive till that point). No matter what will happen to that bomb, but Zayed tries to convince Abhishek that not only himself but both should take care of Dia Mirza. Sanjay Dutt is into tears and doesn't care to stop Jamaal who is not running away, but waiting for elevator to come. Sunil Shetty is shouting.. "Fenk Do Bam, Mar Jaane Do Logon Ko.. Kud Kaao Shashank..." Director will teach you geography which you've never learned. He'll enlighten you that AIIMS flyover is situated near some sea or something. I bet you didn't know that.
Well, there are few saving graces for movie. 'Dus Bahane' and 'Deedar De' are treat to hear. Pankaj Kapoor proves that he is definitely one of the front-line actors and AB Jr. proves himself again after Sarkar. and yes, how can I forget Shilpa Shetty and her stunts (a la Trinity) and one must not forget the guy, whosoever it is,who made the trailer and posters and made people believe that this is movie worth watching, so go and watch in theaters. arre bhaiyo, suno, agar movie dekho to upper/stall mein dekhana aur mazaa aayega...
The Wizard of Oz (1939)
superb art of story telling
Adapted from Frank Baum's children book "The Wizard of Oz", the movie by Victor Fleming depicts wonderful art of stroy telling.
Dorothy Gale, a little girl from Kansas, is swept away to the magical land of Munchkins, by the Tornado, where she is needed to find The Wizard of Oz, who can take her back to her house.
According to me, a perfect children story. In the dreams, how the real-life characters affects their characters in dream of a child. Effects necessary for the movie are well shown (mind well, this movie was made in 1939). It's a musical movie, frequently supported by wonderful songs in the movie. "Over the Rainbow", title song for the movie was placed all time #1 Hollywood song by AFI. it snatched Oscar award for best music from "gone with the wind". Judy Garland wonderfully performed the character of Dorothy Gale . She was just superb, well supported by other cast.
In short, inspite of 65 year old movie, no wonder this movie is placed at #62 in all time 250 of IMDb. do give it a watch in light mood.
Veer-Zaara (2004)
Love Legend by Yash Chopra
Advertised as "Love Legend" by Yash Chopra. Said to be one of the finest work by him. Is it worth all this hype??
Upto some extent, YES. At some points it disappoints though. First of all, for those who hate Shahrukh Khan and his kinda movies, they better stay away from the movie. It's a totally emotional movie. Movie is to be watched for its direction and not for its script. The story is quite predictable except few turns.
Movie's strongest point is its music by Late Madan Mohan and its recreation by Sanjeev Kohli and Yash Chopra. Full marks to Yash Chopra for the music and LYRICS. If you see trailer 4 on the LAN, you would really feel that upto what extent this man recreated Madan Mohan's tunes. If you liked its songs, then you will like even more when you see the movie, because it's well known fact that Yash Chopra's music is much dependent on the situation and more likable after watching the movie. e.g. the kawali, which I didn't like when I heard it, but it fits the situation very well, especially the words.
Movie clearly belongs to ShahRukh Khan and Preity Zinta. As per performance, ShahRukh Khan is good. He has done the same acting he has been doing since quite long time, but anyway that's what is needed for the movie. Preity Zinta too is well. Rani Mukherjee doesn't have much role as compared to Veer and Zaara, but good performance in role assigned to her like some of the courtroom scenes. Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Manoj Vajpayee, Kirron Kher, Boman Irani have done justice to their roles.
Overall, worth watching at Hall if you like emotional movies. my rating:8/10
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
A Great Movie
A wonderfully made movie. The best thing about movie is it never looses its pace. Neither it gets fast nor it gets slow... Rightly placed at #2 on IMDb.Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman makes a great pair in the movie. Villain, Bob Gluton, the Jailer performs his role very well. "Hope is good thing, probably one of the best thing, and no good thing ever dies" is the central theme of the movie according to me.
Calm, Placid banker Andrew Dufresene lives his life with hope without loosing his temper. and that's the movie is all about. Frank Darabont did an amazing job adapting from Stephen King's short story, and he deserves as much praise for it as possible. Nobody, not even my favourite writers such as the Coen brothers of Quentin Tarantino (partly for the fact that the first only writes comedies and the latter only fares in blood spatter) could have achieved this amazing script, which completely uplifts and spellbinds the viewer.
