Reviews
Daredevil (2003)
This screams out 'POTENTIAL"!!!
This is one of those movies where you either rate it really high, or very low. After watching this, I wanted to give it a 10/10. There are so many aspects of the film that are perfect. And perfection is rare in the film industry.
For example, the script and screen play were simply amazing as was the storyline. It was so good in fact that in regards storyline and screenplay, I place this in my list of top 5 films for screen play. The cast and acting was so full of talent that it almost made me feel sorry for them, as their efforts were wasted due to the mediocre editing. The acting across the board was great. From Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner to Jon Favreu and Colin Farrell and Michael Clarke Duncan, just really good. Costume design was spot on and character development really drew me into the movie. Basicaly, there was something for everyone.
The few but major drawbacks were the fight scenes, special effects in some areas and continuity. The fight scenes appeared slow and deliberate and frankly uninteresting. The special effects at times showed the age of the film but in its own defense, it was made almost 10 years ago! However, for me, the biggest drawback was the continuity. For example, when Elektra is stabbed by Bullseye, it shows the blade come up through the lower stomach and come out in the upper back area. However, when she is cast aside, we see the stab wound down near her behind on her lower back. Another instance is when Bullseye takes Daredevils 'Billy Club' and spears a man, Daredevil runs away with the Billy Club in his hand and he was nowhere near the attacked man! For me, the small details make the difference between a good movie and an amazing movie. Unfortunately, as much as I want to review this as an amazing film, it just stands as a film that was good, not amazing.
For those of you who want to watch an improved edition of 'Daredevil', I highly recommend the directors cut which is 30 minutes longer than the theatrical edition however, it is a huge improvement. If I was to review the Directors Cut of Daredevil, 9/10 for sure!! Everything is better, the fight scenes, character development and as for continuity, the extended edition explains the missing gaps from the theatrical edition.
A good movie that lacks the edge to become amazing, it screams potential, but I still love it!!
The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (2008)
It made me so angry...
For a while, I hesitated from watching this movie. I had read the book and had really enjoyed it but the movie reviews said the movie was a bit slow and took time to get off the mark. I have just watched this movie as I had nothing better to do.
In all honesty, I am glad I delayed watch it. 4 and a half years ago I would have been only 12 and would not have been able to handle it. I would have sobbed, perhaps I would have had a few nightmares and I would have beaten up the German kid at school! This movie has had a real in impact on my perception of the world and of historical events in the time of the World Wars. I know that current day Germans have no part in their past, however I cannot hold back the feeling that I want to take some sort of revenge even though I am an unbiased observer with no particular interest in either side.
This is one of the most emotive movies I have seen since I was a child. The cries of a distressed mother was enough to make me choke up, besides the thought of what would have happened to Bruno. The film leaves you to add in the rest and use your imagination to fill in the gaps and think of what happened to the men and children of the holocaust! This movie explores the impacts of misguided perceptions and apparent bias/racism has on entire cultures and the innocence of the blameless children caught up in it.
Although I previously said that I am glad that I delayed watching this movie, I am also VERY glad that I did end up watching it. Right now I just want to punch a German however I understand that it is not appropriate and am able to withstand my emotions now that I am a 17 year old.
I recommend this movie to all and any person above the age of at least 12 with strong parental guidance recommended for anyone younger. Even though there is no violence, swearing, drug or alcohol abuse or any sexual content, it is the subconscious aspect of the film that makes you think "What if..." that really makes the movie an adult film only (recommended).
Any movie that can move a grown man like it moved me deserves the highest praise. I am really glad I watched this movie. I do not regret it and it is now one of my favorites.
8/10
The Prestige (2006)
WOW! Just Amazing!!
This is seriously the best movie you will ever see. By far, both Hugh Jackmans and Christian Bales best ever performance.
I was on the edge of by seat the whole time. It is a dark and mysterious movie that draws your attention and is very intriguing. It may appear hard to comprehend but the whole movie is tied together in the final chapter and it is at that moment when you truly realize what an amazing movie this is.
Possibly the best Christopher Nolan movie yet!! He employs many disturbing and emotive scenes to highlight the instability of the human nature. This movie has gone way under the radar. This deserves to be up their with the very best and beyond.
I am not a fan on the average movie that entails little action scenes or movies that appear to take time to unravel, but this blew me away. It gets into your head and messes around. I watched this and for 4 days it was all I can think about! an absolutely amazing art work.
10 out of 10. Enjoy!
