Dune: Part Two (2024)

Lightning in a bottle.

This is a film language masterclass. The perfect marriage of sight and sound.

No need to go into details, but 'Dune: Part Two' is a restoration of the sci-fi/fantasy soul that existed for previous generations.

The 80s had Blade Runner The 90s had T2 The 2000s blessed us with ROTK The 2010s began with Deathly Hallows Pt 2

And now the 2020s is restored with the Dune series. Denis Villeneuve deserves recognition as a leading auteur who will influence the next decade of filmmakers to go back to the well for nourishment.

For those who appreciate the craft of filmmaking and have awaited the messiah of storytelling.. your wish has been granted. Enjoy!

Man of the House (1995)

The feel-good 90s in a nutshell.

This is what movies were made for. A heartstring tugging, relatable family story that everyone can understand.

Chevy Chase, Farrash Fawcett, JTT, and some character actors you might recognize from the odd indie film.

No need for tricks and odd storytelling devices.

I won't even explain the story as a means to why it's good. On the topic of this era, coming of age films were always a hit. They're fun, heartfelt, and always leave you with a lesson.

You just need to watch it. You will leave with a nice feeling of fulfilment. None of this overcomplicated contemporary writing that tries to show off and be cerebral.

These types of comedies allow everything to breathe. Moments of conflict, moments of enjoyment, appropriate music.

A simple story where the A-plot and B-plot blend well together and help resolve each other.
