Rockin' Meera (2006)
Laugh all the way through!
A crazy comedy all the way, could not stop laughing. I wanted to watch it for a long time since I missed the theatrical release in 2009. I don't know what took so long for them to put this on DVD. But I really enjoyed it. Meera is a student in San Francisco and plays with a band called 'Nerve Block'. When her brother, Prem learns about her love for an African American classmate, Meera is whisked away to India. Her friends take a trip to India to rescue Meera from an impending marriage to a Prince. Their adventure makes up the rest of the story of the film. The movie is shot in a very beautiful manner, literally a symphony of colors. The screenplay is entirely focused on making you laugh. The lead actors are just okay but the supporting cast makes it worth watching. Specially Tiger Singh, the father of bride! That guy is hilarious! Crazy stuff...If you are in to serious cinema, this is not for you.
Hotel Hollywood (2010)
This one will give you the creeps!
The movie is smartly shot in docu-drama format. An Indian wedding party checks in to a hotel and then bad things start to happen. The premise sounds run of the mill, but the treatment makes the movie stand out. I watched it in the afternoon and was thankful that I did not watch it at night. It is almost a dark comedy over run with zombies. A strange infection starts to turn hotel guests in to zombies and the bride and groom struggle to keep themselves and their family members alive. Param Gill plays the groom and Mehr Hassan plays the bride. Both have done a decent job and do not draw any attention to themselves. Arsh Singh plays a paramedic and has given a great performance. The rest of supporting cast is good as well. The end is a shocker!
