Hotel Hollywood (2010)
Strictly for horror fans
I loved 'Rockin Meera' from director Param Gill. So watched this one as well. I am not a horror fan, so these kind of films are not for me. It starts of as dark comedy but soon turns in to a gory and horrifying struggle for survival. The director, Param Gill also plays the lead and is actually convincing. I would rather have him stick to directing comedies though. Coming back to this film, it build up slowly as typical fat Indian wedding. But soon some one is infected with a rare virus and the entire hotel is placed on a lock down. The virus turns ordinary people in to flesh eating zombies. Now the bride and groom have to save their friends and family which have gathered for their wedding from getting infected. The dark corridors of the hotel get filled up with zombies. It was too horrifying for me, since I am not a horror fan. I could not sit through the entire film. But if you are a horror fan, go for it.
Rockin' Meera (2006)
Riot of colors and laughter!
I almost did not watch this film. But my boyfriend insisted. So we did! It was a pleasant surprise. The movie has a huge canvas for an indie film. It is about this girl, Meera who is at San Francisco on a student visa which is about to expire. She falls in love with her African American classmate and they decide to get married. But Meera's family takes her back to India against her wishes. Her boyfriend along with his friends undertake a journey to India to rescue Meera. The plot is run of the mill, fish out of water kind of story, BUT the treatment is worth many laughs. The director does not try to make a serious love story but is only focused at comedy. You could even call this film a parody of Indian blockbuster,"Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge". The movie gets very comical and interesting once we get to India. The character of girl's father, Tiger Singh is hilarious and over the top. You see him and you start laughing. Fatso Fasano as Shorty Chipps is very good. The lead actors are just okay but on the whole a good comedy. I still can't stop laughing, Poor Fatso trying to take a crap! Watch it, I am not kidding.
