Trenches of Rock (2019)
A Near-Perfect Rockumentary
From start to finish, this Rockumentary has it all: Drama, a little humor, intrigue, and of course, the great music from Seattle's own BLOODGOOD! They were I would have to say CRIMINALLY under-rated, not only for the great tunes, but their bombastic live shows as well. Their love for Jesus truly shone through, despite the lack of CCM noticing them because of their uncompromising music. Stryper got a lot of the press, and they were a help to the band, but when you are squeezed from both sides (the Christians thought they were demonic, and the non-Believers didn't like their staunch stand when it came to the Lord.
Watch this film, enjoy the music, and learn...
Mystery Men (1999)
Great fun and too bad it didn't do better
This movie deserved better It's great fun, has some wonderful jokes and sight gags, some in-stuff for the "Geeks" amongst us (And we know who we are), and the effects are indeed effectual. Watching Paul Reubens fart in the face of an Academy Award winner is worth the price of admission alone. I never read the comics series before I saw the movie, but have since. as good as they are, I still recommend MM the film. (Although having the Flaming Carrot as a character would have been cool, too) Greg Kinnear is, well,...amazing as Captain Amazing, and NO ONE ELSE could be The Shoveller except William H. Macy My favorite line in the film? "We've got a blind date with Destiny. And it looks like she's ordered the lobster." See this film. BUY this film! It's only 5 bucks and some change at your local Wal-Mart. You'll thank me. Really you will. Oh, and Ms. Garafolo is in it. THAT ALONE makes it watch-worthy
RV (2006)
Fun and deserves more props
People just don't get it... This is a FUN family type film, the kind Hollywood seems hesitant to make unless it has animated animals in it. WHY oh why does that prospect (a family comedy) enrage so many people? Perhaps it's because their lives are so filled with ennui and desperation that they feel everyone else should feel that way too, and all cinema should reflect that. How sad, really, because then they miss ouot on some great fun, and that's just what RV is....FUN. Silly? Sure it is. Profound? Naaahhh..... Robin Williams best film? Nope! A classic for the ages? I kinda doubt it. Fun for the whole family? You betcha baby!
Hysteria: The Def Leppard Story (2001)
Haphazard at best...
As band bio-pics go, this one is a mix up. Only real fans of the band will be interested. Those mildly curious will walk away with a profound sense of "Wha..?" Def Leppard have a great history, and the fact they all started so young is almost never touched on, except for the drummer, Ric Allen. Anthony Michael Hall as Mutt Lange, who, if you go by the film, truly defined, refined, and set the course for their music. And while this may be true, Hall's performance is lackluster and yawn-inducing. All in all, I'd give this a 4 out of 10. As I previously stated, and this is no fine point, only FANS will be interested in this. I'd rather see "Song Remains the Same" with Led Zeppelin.
The Pacifier (2005)
Surprisingly good. Really!
My best friend saw this film with his son (who loved it), but he hated it, calling it "trite" and "been done". Well, trite it may be at times, and yes the storyline has been done before, but i found this movie to be kinda fun in a warm, comfortable kind of way. And i'm no fan of Mr.Diesel, but I liked him in this (The only other movie i liked him in was The Iron Giant) So yeah, rent this movie. Show it to the kids and grandma. There are so few films i can say that about these days.... which is a sad commentary on todays films. You just can't take kids to see many movies that don't offend some aspect of your daily life anymore So see The Pacifier
Since You Went Away (1944)
A TCM Staple,or should be
This film is a fine and shining example of the War films of the period, and contains wonderful performances, especially Ms.Colbert. I heartily recommend this film to any film buff or anyone who likes heart-felt Dramas Check your local listings, set the VCR or TIVO or whatever you use to record, sit back, watch, and enjoy. An 8 out of 10 to be sure For fans of Shirley Temple, this is also a good film to watch, as her acting goes deeper and fuller. And for those who are used to seeing "Old Man Potter" as an evil Tyrant will be pleasantly surprised. The music swell and dips in all the right places. And for fans of Joseph Cotten, you will NOT be disappointed, except in amount of screen time
