The Lake House (2006)
definitely worth watching
The Lake House is not your usual love story. It has to be the first story where I have actually sat and sniffled in a very long time. The reason that I like it so much is that it touched me in a romantic way but wasn't stupid or sappy. I especially liked the part where Alex and Kate are supposed to get together for a meal and Alex makes a reservation ahead of time. The look on the hostess' face is great and I couldn't help but wonder what she thought when Kate showed up. I could never see anyone but Sandra Bullock or Keanu Reeves in these parts as they are so right for them. I think that this movie is destined to be a classic as much as Casablanca.
Eight Below (2006)
go see it
I enjoyed this movie and the special effects with the dogs were excellent. I actually jumped with shock at one point. The leopard seal was scary and the photography of it swimming through the ice channels was very realistic. I felt that the training of the dogs and the "tricks" were very impressive. I know how hard it is to deal with huskies and my girlfriend has one that looks exactly like Max. Both of us were impressed with the dogs and the sledding shots. She is training her husky to pull a cart during the summer and knows how hard it is to train them. Definitely worth seeing especially if you like huskies and dog-sled racing. It makes me think of the Iditarod.
'Til We Meet Again (1940)
I waited almost 15 years to see the end of this movie
my ex was a truck driver. The night that I was watching this movie, he called just as they were arriving in Hawaii. I missed the rest of the movie and was extremely disappointed. I tried to find it again on TV and only once that I know, was it shown. I imagined scenarios for many years trying to figure out what the ending would be. I finally found a company that had access to many film archives and obtained a copy. I've only had it a week and I have already watched it 3 times. The rest of the movie was better than anything that I dreamed up. I liked the twists and turns of the plot and the ending was classic. Of course, you could always imagine that the ending was different, but I think that the way it ended enhanced the love story. True love overcomes all difficulties in the end.
