Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman (1993)
IMDb is not more the same
So bad to see the lower level in the actual users of IMDb...the general opinion about this series make clear the level of people coming to IMDb, and that is a real shame when we think in the old IMDb and the clever people writing in there...I suppose we cant expect quality in amazon when they just take count of noses, but its sadly to lost a excellent place to talk seriously about movies and TV, which was the old IMDb... I m not saying the ignorant people not have the right to make opinions, but when the everyone have the feeling that can make statements without any concern about the own capacity to talk about anything, the thing become a loud noise very empty of intelligence, so who really want to share opinions , serious opinions, about a movie hardly can find that in IMDb...Im feeling betrayed...I lost a old wise friend and a stupid kid without brain is using his name just because have the money to buy it, so I have reasons to feel me betrayed...right?
Just Cause (1995)
Must to be difficult to make good movies in America!
After to read the comments here my first reflection is how hard is to make good movies like this in America, where people have troubles understanding The Simpons plots...but after to read the Dr Jacques COULARDEAU comment from the nice France Im clear the problem is global....In this good movie you can see very clear how bad is work from the prejudice, even if is a liberal one...and how easy is to build prejudices from the safe academy...and how long in the way from theory and reality when is about people, evilness and society...sadly the good intention is ruined in the last part, probably because the director remembered his target audience...the moral of this tale:the best option for filmmakers is to look for a new job...
Scarface (1983)
the original is better, for long
This is a good movie, that is a fact. But its predecessor, the 1932 Hawks movie, its a lot better. First, Muni is a lot more credible like a half stupid and half brute criminal, who fight in the world where all is possible in the only way that his brain can handle. In Muni character violence is essential and a particular language to deal with a world open for anyone that can handle it. Muni, at the opposite side of Pacino, is very human, human to act and human to die, and he die as his boss die under his hands, how any criminal, in a good tale about moral and the right way to do things define, must to die: praying for his life, defenseless against a society that is a lot more than him. Its not a minor point, in fact its a huge point, the radical difference between Muni shoot dead for policemen without excess and Pacino fighting some kind the little war against numberless henchmen send by a drug Bolivian landlord. A lot more credible is also the Muni sister reaction, who at last just must to recognize the undeniable fact that both are the same because are in the same side of the world, than the Pacino sister with all that twisted incestuous allusion, besides the incredible bad skill with the gun. If you liked this over-sized remake you must to watch the original one...
Valdez Is Coming (1971)
a pretty clear metaphor of 70s
This movie is, for long, a very handbook of that special era that was the 70s, when the paradigmatic view of American society, and our entire society, was changing archetypal views to accommodate the old fashion to the news, unsolved, challenges and, over most, to construct an "ad hoc" stereotype...in this way we have the lonely hero, the man who is capable to go up over the own feet when the social constructed roles of humiliation touch his very moral core and, following his superior imperative, finish taken the gun and opening his way with bullets but, over most, with bravery...a pure old fashion way to see the world and what the man must to do in there, the way that America was constructed, by the way....But this man carry with him the guiltiness too, in this case, we don't know how much Apaches he killed but for sure enough to make Valdez take over his old shoulders the vindictive claim never expressed for a silent Indian woman. The old theme: a man, just one man, can carry on over his shoulders the right way and, against all reasonable preview, win, but his struggle always is fight against the shadowed background of his own sins. This pure, ontological view about the man and his constraints, in "Valdez is coming" is mixed with all that construct that arise in 70's....The new theme: racism (Indian, black, Mexicans), contemporary capitalism (the bad guy, a kind of landlord, have a lucrative weapons trade that is ruined for Valdez intervention), feminism (the woman killed his husband because he was a bad person, betray the bad guy because for him she is just an object, ride with Valdez like his equal), and social responsibility (the cause of Valdez is a social cause, the moral legitimation to kill all those people is because that is done in virtue of a superior value, the justice, make flesh in the submissive Indian woman or Mexican good worker). The very final statement, posed in the last 5 minutes of movie, very improbable from a rationale point of view, make sense from the metaphorical view: the three man, the three views of life embodied in the bad guy, El Segundo y Valdez, make clear that everyone take decisions, that decisions carry on effects, and the way that anyone faced that effects make the difference between men...at last, everyone is alone with his conscience and the claims that the other can make about his acts, and the society is just a kind of desolate landscape looking at us with a kind of indifferent acquittance...a very 70s statement, for sure.
Ying xiong wu lei (1984)
well, just for Woo fans, being generous
Nothing that anybody looking for a war movie, or a kung fu movie, or an Asian movie, or just a movie, can bare to watch...the absence of any kind of actoral performance, people flying in the air very acrobatically but in complete "out of tempo" with the explosions that its suppose are impelling them, commandos using a military tactic probably designed for some freshman in lit class and a "human plot" taken from a very more decent manga, are the best part of this movie, because have a half laughing effect, but sadly not are enough to compensate the 84 minutes of patience and indulgence required from the viewer... Is a pity for all that tape rolled and the powder for so many unuseful explosion, the only victims of this so called "movie".
