Brick Mansions (2014)
Just watch the original B-13
Look.. After Oldboy which is the unnecessary remake of the original Korean version, what should Hollywood do? I know, lets copy and paste another kick-ass movie and hope that the people wouldn't notice!!
Well guess what Hollywood, i do notice. It is from B-13.
Brick Mansion, i hate to say, is one of the worst copy and paste movies out there. It is all the same as the original! Even Worse, it is worse than the original. I personally love Paul Walker and i teared up a bit in the end of the movie, BUT, i love the original Damien even more. The original Damien was kicking ass and jumping around, eventually having a very good chemistry with the Leto (the original Lino). This? this is just bland. Their chemistry wasn't convincing, the fighting sequence somewhat sucked and their relied heavily on shaky cameras. I kinda felt dizzy watching the fight scene. Lino was like Leto, in a way. Because both are the same parkour masters so yea, nothing more to say other than good job.
But its probably Paul Walker's last movie. And as a fan myself, i gotta really give this movie at least a two.
One thing.... The director needs to realize, life isn't all predictable. It maybe the actor's last movie. So please, don't immortalize him with a copy and paste movie. Its just sad and wrong. Just plain wrong.
2 stars for Paul walker. R.I.P Paul.
The World's End (2013)
Simon Pegg is one of the best actors out there.
Nick Frost and Simon Pegg are both famous for their individual performances, but both are legendary when they work together.
When they work together, usually Simon would be the stronger character and Nick would be the much more laid back, careless character (as shown in the previous two , shawn of the dead and Hot Fuzz). But in this case they both switched characters. I thought for once this movie would sucked because both would be acting in they less favourable character but in this movie, Simon Pegg had done exceptionally well! Nick Frost was great in that movie, and also the chemistry between those 5 characters are so strong you might have thought they had worked together for a long time.
The storyline was okay. It wasn't much to ponder upon but the quality was there. The script is good and most of them are quite humorous. All in all, a movie worth watching. Credits to the acting.
I gave an 8. It would be a 6 if it wasn't for the excellent acting job by all actors and actresses.
Oldboy (2013)
copy something and one is what you get (old)boy.
So Oldboy 2013, the American version. Let me just make things clear. The term "American" does not make this movie a little bit different from the original Korean version, i mean apart from the actors and the language used, everything in the movie is ALL THE SAME!!!
What's worse: the fight scene in this movie sucks. Although thank you for not using ridiculous shaky cameras (like the original one), those scenes are seriously hilarious. i can see this guy on the right, having so many chances in attacking Josh from the back, just acting all hyped up dancing around and basically waits for the hero to turn around and punch him in the face. What's worse, the fight scene are almost the mirror movements of the ORIGINAL OLDBOY!!!!!
but there's still some brownie points to give. Josh Brolin did a solid performance in this, Sharlto Copley can be better but nonetheless was solid throughout the whole movie, and Samuel L. Jackson is in his key role, playing the big boss with strong ego. All this adds up to a one star rating i gave.
for the movie: Directing 0, plot 0, cinematography 0, dialog (absolutely) 0. (You wouldn't expect me to give you credit for what you didn't do, did ye spike lee?)
Advice, go see the original Korean version. It darker, had a lot more emotion and the sense of appreciating the original work from the original director Park Chan-wook .
Oblivion (2013)
A movie worth watching
C'mon now admit it, you thought it would be another sci-fi movie with good CGI's and acting doesn't matter... Well you are not entirely wrong. The acting here is very decent. Somehow, i really hoped Morgan Freeman has more acting time in this.
Even though so, it is still a good movie. Keyword, GOOD. I don't use that word often, however i really think this movie deserves a thumbs up. This is because all the questions are not left unanswered in this movie, in which is a big plus point for me.
The twists in the story does not confuse the audience, moreover annoys them. The acting however is rather annoying, especially Olga Kurylenko. Andrea Riseborough brought out a great performance (thank god) and surprisingly i wasn't enjoying tom cruise's acting. Then again, i am never a fan of his acting anyways.
All and all, solid 9/10. And i am being very very generous p/s:Morgan freeman as cameo? u gotta be serious.
127 Hours (2010)
How can this movie rate below Avatar?!
Seriously i just don't understand this. Why is a movie with such an amazing acting gets such low ratings, and yet a movie with minimal acting and cartoon CGIs gets higher rating than this movie? What happened to the traditions of appreciating a movie? Is it gone?
First of all, I love the way James Franco acts in this. He has the ability to connect with the audience. With restricted movements, all James Franco can make this movie a huge success is by his emotions, in which he did it flawlessly.
Solid 9, could have given a 10 but still thinks this movie can do better. P/s: i only give a 10 to perfect movies. :)
Django Unchained (2012)
Another amazing performance by Christoph Waltz
No critics, no comments about the movie, just watch and get amazed by the wonderful acting of Christoph Waltz. The acting by Leonardo DiCaprio, excellent and tense The acting of Samuel L. Jackson is the usual, but was above average in this. The acting by Jamie Foxx was so-so, but all in all was good.
The only problem is the dialog. It doesn't flare up much to the awesomeness of the casting; however Christoph Waltz did a great job in making the dialog a lot more interesting.
A solid 8/10. But a given 9 for Christoph Waltz performance. Congratz on his Oscar!
Avatar (2009)
it's just a disappointment.
OK, this is my first review but i am going to be completely honest.
First of all, this movie is predictable. A handicapped marine was given a mission to get close to the clans, eventually fall in love with one of them, then became one of them. Its so predictable it took of all the excitement i had throughout the whole movie! I though it would be a great plot since the budget of this movie was so expensive, so i kept my hopes high. In the end, it ends up just as mentioned. Disappointed...
Secondly, the CGIs. This can actually be an animation since almost every scene is completely in CGI. And the CGI even looked cartoon-ish. The characters looked cartoon-ish,the creatures looks cartoon-ish. The only thing I enjoyed in this movie is the scenery. (Hence the 3, it would be a 2 if it wasn't for the scenery.) It's not a bad movie actually,it's watchable. I just think with the given budget it could be just a lot better,a way lot better movie than this.
