Law & Order: Criminal Intent: Love on Ice (2010)
Season 9, Episode 8
7/10
Well acted, but a few script holes
5 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A well acted episode but the plot stretched credulity. It didn't make sense the car dealer offed himself when he didn't kill Bailey. He very likely could prove he was elsewhere. It stretched credulity even more when we hear the victim was a very successful MLB player who should have had a lot of money but they keep asserting he was a lifelong failure. Everyone, including his wife, kept asserting he was a failure. Being a 40+ HR hitter in MLB means you're a star. They even acknowledge he had a lot of fans and women throwing themselves at him. He was a big star and successful in the majors. His restaurant was also a success for a time. This part is not explained well and it is difficult to see the guy as a big loser if he did all this.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent: My Good Name (2005)
Season 4, Episode 22

John Riggins
20 May 2023
He performed quite well in a limited role, but seems a little out of place for a New York LEO. He sounds and looks like a Texan (he's originally from Kansas). He spoke 50 words. Otherwise, the show was quite good and shows the corrupting influence of politics and how one's shenanigans can catch up with one.

It does bother me the lack of compassion Goren and Eames show when they catch their man and continue dumping on him especially when he sees what tragic mistakes he made. They show that when the perp asks for a little respect. Considering he's going to concede to everything and seems to have genuine remorse, it's a surprise they keep pounding away at him. Of course, as a murderer, they feel dumping on him is justified.

Hit & Run (2021)
Strange
11 August 2021
A married tour guide with a daughter seems an unassuming guy but it turns out he has a particular set of skills honed over a lifetime which make him a nightmare for bad guys, and his friends, too, whom he seems to be trying to get killed. If you don't do what he wants, he will search for you, he will find you, and he will kill you.

A decent show but Segev and many others keep making silly moves. Segev is stupidly confrontational with everyone he meets. We're supposed to excuse this because his wife died. He's very demanding of his friends without offering much to them in return. He also seems to make little effort to hide or conceal himself yet the authorities are mostly unable to find him, or hold him.

The show is filmed mostly in darkness to contribute to the serious tone? The serious tone is supposed to make the audience take everything seriously, but the show could use some comic relief.

Multiple releases under different names
8 April 2021
This appears to have been first released in 2009 as A Secret Promise. It was released again in 2016 as The Homeless Billionaire. Now it's My Secret Billionaire.

The owners took to heart the adage "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again." They should have tried another movie instead of re-titling and re-releasing this one every 5-7 years. I suppose they coax a few dollars out of it by re-releasing every few years.

A guilty pleasure

Warning: Spoilers
No, not a very good movie as movies go, but a curiosity for those with some knowledge of history and a weak spot for time travel stories.

I understand they are flying a Boeing 757 which should have been able to evade Me-262s except.....the people were aware they were in an alternate WW2 timeline where things were not exactly the same. The Boeing 757 could fly 50-90 mph faster than the Me 262 at top speed and reach about 5000 feet more altitude. Also, Me-262s only had 60-90 minutes of fuel. So, although Me-262s might have been able to intercept the 757 in optimal circumstances they wouldn't be able to fly around it and move back and forth much. If you're wondering why the Boeing 757 did not have an even greater performance edge, it carried over 200 people and cargo whereas Me-262s had one pilot.

The British did have the most advanced radar at the time, but the Germans, Japanese, Italians, and Russians also had radar. The German radar advanced when they captured intact or partially intact radar sets from downed British aircraft. The US was also developing radar but the British decided to share their advanced tech freely. The cavity magnetron was demonstrated to Americans at RCA, Bell Labs, etc. It was 100 times more powerful than anything they had seen. Bell Labs was able to duplicate the performance, and the Radiation Laboratory at MIT was established to develop microwave radars. It was later described as "The most valuable cargo ever brought to our shores".

The US owes the British a lot for that.

The British had a complete network of radar stations by 1940.

Chaos Walking (2021)
Filming schedule shows the eventual trouble
7 March 2021
This was filmed in 2017. Audience responses were so bad they decided to reshoot major parts of it in 2019. Now they are releasing it in 2021.

This kind of schedule gives an indication it didn't go well.

The Magnificent Seven
9 February 2020
A modern Turkish version of the classic. Very good display of military tactics and weapons and, yes, exactly seven guys (albeit Special Forces) to hold off 200+ heavily armed Daesh with a tank who are attacking a previously defenseless village..

Remember this line:

"There is only one righteous reason in war: Defending the innocent."
