The Krays: Dead Man Walking (2018)
Worst film ever!
Utter, utter garbage. It really is dreadful, bottom-of-the barrel drivel. The two amateur actors playing the twins look like they have come straight out of a village drama workshop. Worse still, they look, act and sound absolutely nothing remotely like The Krays. Since when did Reggie suddenly have designer stubble and resemble a skinny, goofy simpleton?
The amateurish, obviously low and very cheap production on display for all to see simply beggars belief that this film was even made. It's childish, pathetic dross, and how they managed to lure in stellar names for one-off scenes is truly baffling. Either that, or Michael Ball, Linda Lusardi, Darren Day and the late Leslie Grantham must have been very desperate for work to have signed up for what is the worst film I have ever seen!
The amateur director and the two 'actors' playing the Krays will hopefully never work in film ever again.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Could be the worst film in the franchise
I reckon once the dust settles on this film the backlash will begin, and you will see film critics doing a massive U turn on this film soon. Right now they are caught up in the hype and are too afraid to give it a bad review for fear of being ridiculed, particularly as the film did lots of nice PC correctness box-ticking and going against type, which critics usually love. The more I think about it, the more disappointed I get now with this film. There is so much wrong with it, its easier to focus on what actually works in the movie, and the answer is very little. Too many storylines, the whole prequel-type CGI casino scenes with Finn and Rose was not needed at all, too many unnecessary twists were the film was trying too hard to be clever, but most unforgivably - destroying Luke Skywalker's character. I didn't care what happened to any of the characters by the end of the movie. It was trying too hard to be too box-ticking PC correct too - vegetarian is good, being rich is bad, religion is bad, everyone is equal, you don't need to be a Skywalker to be a Jedi, anyone can be a Jedi, etc. Terrible film, and may actually be the worst film in the entire franchise (how is that even remotely possible after all the hard work achieved with Force Awakens and Rogue One?)
Skyfall (2012)
The best Bond film in the franchise
I'm a huge fan of the Fleming books, and it was only really with Craig's first outing did we see the literary incarnation on screen in all its glory for the first time in years. Dalton's brief tenure allowed us an interpretation of the character, but then you have to go back to the 60's before that for more accurate representations of Fleming's character, under both Connery and Lazenby.
Quantum of Solace undid a lot of the hard groundwork the producers achieved in Casino Royale, making Bond human and occasionally vulnerable, and gladly they've returned to this more realistic concept again for Skyfall.
Craig's third outing really nails the character, based particularly on Fleming's last two novels - You Only Live Twice and The Man with the Golden Gun. It is refreshing to see Bond lose his fitness and sharpness, to see him more vulnerable and human, see him make mistakes.
There are some beautifully shot moments, but what else would you expect from Mendes and co. There are also a few shocks, and a few crowd-pleasing moments too, particularly the return of the Aston Martin DB5, which was received with a huge round of applause from the audience.
The last few minutes of the film will put one huge smile on your face, and leave you with a feel-good-factor wanting more.
In many ways Skyfall reboots the franchise in a more definitive way than Casino Royale before it did. This is a true Bond classic, with all the traditional element back in place, only used more carefully and subtle, with taste and dignity. Fleming moments are also littered throughout, resulting in a movie EON have tried desperately to achieve in the past 50 years - a combination of cinematic Bond and Fleming Bond that would actually work in one film, and not create a feeling of disjointed confusion - not knowing whether to be funny or serious, OTT or realistic. This was the fault with many of the Moore and Brosnan flicks.
Undisputed classic, Craig's best Bond yet, and probably the best film in the entire franchise. This will set the standard for all future films to beat - and not just Bond.
I wouldn't at all be surprised if Skyfall is nominated for quite a few of the big Oscars next year, such is the quality of this brilliant film.
