Love the history
3 August 2017
I love the show and the history lessons learned in so many of the transactions. However, one episode got my blood boiling. When Corey purchased the WW2 Indian motorcycle, he said the french never fired a shot against the Germans and just surrendered. This is a slap in the face to the brave french who held the line so the British could cut and run. I am of French heritage. So I take it personal. The British were the ones who fled the battle without hardly doing any fighting. The French Air Force had its pilots also flying 5 sorties a day average. Basically they flew until they were shot down. In two places the French army held the line so the British could retreat, even losing a general in combat. They counter attacked against superior numbers. I hate this American impression that the french just threw down their arms and surrendered in 1940. It's far from the truth. The french navy also lost 123 ships in the battle, more than the British. The British leaders decided to abandon France and save their men for the battle of Britain. Sorry Corey. I had to give you a history lesson.

Good war movie, but not great.
3 August 2017
It was a good movie as far as visual effects. However, there was very little acting. The movie made the German air force look small and inept. Whereas the RAF fighter was able to fight on, and on, and on, and fly forever without fuel, and shoot down German planes faster than Rambo mowing down Russians with AK-47s, The aircraft also never ran out of ammunition, like a cop in an action movie who never reloads and shoots hundreds of bullets. If you have an aviation background like me, you will know that with weight and balance issues, bullets are limited to a certain amount. My other issue, being a person of french descent, was the total lack of time given to the french soldiers who held the line so that the British could escape. The french fought bravely, unlike many Americans think. But they suffered from poor generalship at the time. They had better tanks than the Germans, but these were poorly deployed. Overall, despite these mistakes, it was a good weekend movie. I gave it 6 stars.

Battlestar Galactica (1978–1979)

Good Sc-Fi

I always thought of this show as a sort of spin off from the 1970s Star Wars craze. The show is based on Egyptian mythology, and sprinkled with characters having the manes of Greek gods. This show was well written and should have had more than one season. I loved it when it came out in the late 70s. It had a good moral compass, like Star Wars, showing there was a clear line between good(humans) and evil(cylons). Galactica 1980 was not as good, but tried to complete the story line with the Galactica finally finding earth. The remake of 2004 was visuallystunning. But I found the cast a jumble of screwed up people who should be locked up in an asylum. It was a ship full of drunken sociopaths. The line between good and evil was blurred; I suppose much like society today. I guess I'm getting old and prefer the nostalgia of watching the old show. As in that show, we were a different people in the 70s and 80s. We understood that there is good, and there is evil. Time marches on.

History, No modern progressivist views here.

I liked this movie because it didn't come from Hollywood. That already earned it several stars in my book. This movie simply tells a tale of the trials of a knight in the Holy Land, and at home. The writer did excellent by not giving the hero modern, biased, progresive views such as were on display by Orlando Bloom in "The Kingdom of Heaven." Hollywood loves to portray Crusaders as bloodthirsty maniacs, and the Muslims as peaceful pious victims. History proves that both sides had both kinds of men. Movies are good when they simply tell it like it was, not like revisionists want us to ee it. I now look for foreign made films on history, especially the crusades. I avoid Hollywood like a dark age plague.
