The Artful Dodger (2023)
Great Series, Great Musical Score, Great Acting, It was Great
For the purest out there, I don't care! Was on my list, had low expectations (Loved the 1968 "Oliver") & it did not offer songs, but OMG, it was brilliant. The chemistry between Fagin and Dodger was perfect. Both David Thewlis & Thomas Brodie Sangster made you forget anything else they may have done in the past and fitted into their Artful Dodger characters as if they had been them from the start. There is a great musical score playing in the background, which is so perfect for the series. The ensemble cast are wonderful & play great enhancing characters. The plot demands you find out what happens next! Very recommended.
Persuasion (2022)
Brilliant & Original Take on Austen
If you are a purist when it comes to the Fiction of Jane Austen, save yourself and don't watch it. If you love the language of Austen, the costumes of the era, feel of an Austen story with a mild modern twist, then this is for you. I loved it (I am also a fan of Lost in Austen). It still has all the twists and turns of an Austen story and mainly follows the plot line of Persuasion. The cast were perfect, they made the characters as lovable and hateful as in the book, with with a comic twist. Just in case you are worried the unrequited love and inability to be direct is there. Very Recommended.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Escapism, Dinosaurs, Heroes, Chases......whats not to like
We loved it. We were so looking forward to its cinema release and we were not disappointed. Next day on our wild walk, it was interesting to discuss the film & amazing how a group of people can all watch the same film and see and understand scenes differently. The cast were brilliant, nail biting bits brilliant, Dinosaurs put on a good show. We can't wait to see it again (this time on a normal cinema screen) & then to watch it in a marathon with the other 5 films. I recommend it, escapism with bite!
Jumbo (2020)
You cannot choose who you fall in love with
Beautiful film. A metaphor for all types of human conditions, which opened eyes and questions. A subtle piece of writing (& directing) and told by a talented cast. I really like it.
Jellyfish (2018)
This Film should be Mainstream
Wonderfully written acted and directed. This film is about a teenager for which life has put her in a position where she could only feel as if she has failed at every turn & hurdle. Stand Up comedy is her release. This film is not just a film but a window into a world which is real, but hard to acknowledge. Very much a must see which I think both Ken Loach & Danny Boyle would have been proud to put their names to.
Gold Digger (2019)
Still questions to be answered
Maybe I am a cynic, but I don't think all questions have been answered - some characters were scorned and lost/had stuff stolen, I don't think they will leave it there, others made promises and if past promises were used as reference then do they really have the strength of character to keep them, others found "nivana" - really, there were some faces that did not support that feeling. This needs a series/season 2.
