Wonka (2023)
Nothing like expected
Back when the trailer was new I was like *wow, great pictures, gotta go to the movies when it's out*. Now I'm glad I didn't. Wanna know why? Because if I remember correctly, there was no singing in the trailer. Means, you wouldn't expect this to be something like a musical. It's always a matter of taste, but I hate musicals. This totally destroyed the movie. Along with the belated, boring and unimportant appearance of Hugh Grant as orange dwarf. Gotta admit I didn't read the book (it's not popular in Europe), but I know the two previous movies and they were so much better. The picture you got of Wonka and the Oompah Loompahs was authentic, but here? Orange skin, green hair?
The Mysterious Benedict Society (2021)
Weird setup
The locations looks French. So you might think it's in France. The cars are definitely french. But there is too much English around for France, on shop windows or signs or even the school name. So it could also be Canada, but then the cars don't fit. Yes, it was filmed in Canada, but the locations neither are french nor canadian.
Swamp Thing (2019)
Started off good, turned worse with every episode
Everyone knows, this is a fictional horror story. Well, but some parts are real and show real life scenes, like when the people started to infect each other and hallucinated. Things like this happen. But the writers went nuts and so the characters were depicted as so darn stupid in every. And in typical american manner the infected instantly started to attack others with knives (where do they all get knives?) or gun (as if every american would have one). This became so so exaggerated, I couldn't watch it anymore, especially when the doctor who absolutely knew what's going on, let herself scratch by the police woman. WTF?
Joker (2019)
Still questions unanswered
The movie itself was boring. Rarely scenes for a laugh. Well, it wasn't a comedy. But what was it? A psychogram? A drama? The evolution of Arthur (Happy) Fleck into Joker was spread over more than an hour and then, suddenly, everything went so quick you couldn't follow anymore. Why did the masses revolt? Why did they hail him? How and where did he find the red outfit? Was he really adopted or was the adoption all set up? Why did he kill his mother? Why did they translate most of the written papers for the german audience, but not the Fleck file?
The worst thing for me: The permanent closeups of Phoenix' face. He's an ugly guy with bad teeth. What were we supposed to see in the close shots we wouldn't see from a larger distance?
Zone blanche (2017)
Bad scripting, bad everything
Why? Just to name a few, there is so many:
- it's in France's and/or Belgium's forests, not a big area and locals definitely know every spot there but pretend like it's a huge and unknown area.
- a guy crawls from a cave, telling he and his girlfriend got lost - Lost? In France, in the year 2019 where everyone has a smartphone with a map, GPS and compass?
- a police woman nearly faints when a baby is allegedly dumped into a river
- the original name of this series is Zone Blanche (engl.: the white zone), but the english title is Black Spot? How stupid is this?!
Full House (1987)
Amazing, charming, heartbreaking
When it aired the first time in Germany, I didn't really notice it. But now, being completely on Netflix, I found it and fell in love, binge watching it from the very start to the very end. To see the kids change and grow up over the years was a bless. The cutest girls on TV and if you see them now, returning in Fuller House - sadly without Michelle - they haven't changed a bit. Kimmy was my alltime favorite on the show. So fancy, so bold, so funny. But all characters were simply adorable, each one in its own way. One of the best family sitcoms ever.
Assassin's Creed (2016)
What is this?
It surely has been said a thousand times, but who reads all other reviews? This movie is nothing like the games. Reasons to say that: - No story at all, no beginning - you are thrown right into it - Only open, man to man fighting while the games to which the movie should stick to were all about silent assassination and sneaking - The Animus has some sort of robot arm? How pathetic! - Only dark pictures, foggy, sandy, all in brown and grey
The makers turned a great idea for a game franchise into something totally different. It may be interesting for people not knowing anything about the games.
Arrival (2016)
What?
- No beginning, no end
- Was there supposed to be a message? If so, it didn't come through
- Boring alien race with boring ships - No action, no thrill, no suspension
- No clue why the alien were here and why they left eventually
- Stupid script -> The second most important question was where they came from -> What does that matter? If there really were aliens landing on our planet the least we should worry about where they came from.
