True Detective: Maybe Tomorrow (2015)
There's only one season of true detective
I came to the conclusion that there are actually only one season of true detective. It must have been a mistake along the way that the title ended up on the wrong series. Dialogues are to long and meaningless, the continuity of the events doesn't flow well and the countless amount of clichés would suit a comedy better. Oh! I forgot, the casting, I think they should have taken more time to consider a less star studded selection, maybe young actors and actresses that have something to prove would have added a touch of unexpectedness and roughness that are sadly missing in season 2. The soundtrack however is not bad, definitely not what season one had to offer but pleasant enough. So, keep the series going but change the title. Near detective maybe.
The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008)
Let the good credits roll
There are movies that got the Oscar for best movie of the year and I have watched them only once, The Curse of the Judas Chalice never got that kind of recognition but I've watched it four times already and enjoyed each one of them. When I get to that part where Stana Katic sings that song in the bar, I always replay the scene once or twice. Stana Katic is Mona Lisa reincarnated in the twenty first century but better than the Da Vinci's version. Noah Wyle and the rest of the cast are always in tune with the story. Aside from a few exceptions, I'm not into vampire movies that much but this one makes the grade. Not having the kind of budget Indiana Jones movies got and succeeding in making a gem of a flick deserves praise. Hats off for their great work.
Zero Dark Thirty (2012)
How bad can bad be?
I had to give one star to this movie mainly because of the sound track. There is way to much torture for my taste. The depiction of the events were certainly approved by the white house and I suppose a large part of the budget for this lame movie surely comes from the same place. Kathryn Bigelow's scheme to aim at getting an Oscar by courting the establishment fails lamentably. The half documentary and half thriller formula leaves the audience bored to death. Casting Jessica Chastain as a trump card to avoid making a strictly guy flick is not very convincing either. After reading ten pages of comments, I could not help noticing that the word propaganda appears so many times that I cannot understand why the producers were not able to make it less obvious. Anyway at least the sound track was well composed and richly orchestrated. How bad is bad? Very Bad.
