Yay for Anna, yawn for the rest of it
8 October 2023
I fast forwarded most of the movie to get to the good parts. Unfortunately there weren't many good parts. This movie moves at an extremely slow pace. I usually have patience for those type of films but this one did not fulfill any expectations I had going into it. A lot of the film could've been edited and cut down. I enjoyed the scenes with her friends and how they were trying to help her but the story is just too slow. Anna Kendrick did what she could but even if you're a fan of hers, this one will disappoint you. Maybe Alice, darling should've been a tv series. My suggestion: Don't drag a story out without any promise at the end for the viewer to appreciate and understand the slow pace.

The Chi (2018– )
7/10
It was all good, until it wasn't....
25 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I've been watching The Chi since the day it premiered. I fell in love with the writing and characters. When the show centered around Kevin, Ronnie, and Brandon (Jason Mitchell) and how all their storylines intertwined it was great! It was more realistic. After Brandon's character was "killed off", the writers decided to shift Emmett's character into a 'Brandon esque' storyline. Emmett is like the new and improved Brandon.

After season 3 it started to change but not for the better. You can clearly hear that the writing has changed and the storylines aren't that compelling or interesting. It's too many new characters within the last few seasons (5-6) that I don't care for. Once you switch up the writers, the show goes downhill for me. Writing is essential to any movie or television show along with character development. I don't believe any of it anymore. It's not realistic and why is everyone in love all of a sudden lol. I feel like I'm watching a soap opera with this current 6th season. They were lucky to get six seasons on Showtime. I enjoyed seeing so many new talented black actors and actresses. It's time to wrap up The Chi and give them their flowers.

BET don't cancel this one. Great story with potential.

First and foremost, I love the characters and their development as the story progresses. Good writing, great acting and great casting is always a plus and will keep me interested in any show or movie. I enjoy the way the story is told. Each episode starts with a flashback to provide more background about each character. Deon Cole is a great comedian and is showing that he has range as a drama actor. I really hope this shows does not get canceled since it's on BET. I'd love to see it renewed for a season two! Is it perfect? No, however it has great potential to grow and become stronger over time.

Great build up but falls short during episode 8-10
14 June 2023
The acting was decent but the story was not strong. Started off by grabbing your attention and wanting to watch to figure out how it ends. Starts to fall off around episode 8. Plot holes are present and some questions aren't answered. I'm a sucker for teenage dramas and mysteries even though I'm in my 30s. Some of these newer mystery/thrillers know how to reel you in but not hold your interest as the story unfolds.

Mallory was annoying. Jeanette's character was probably the strongest and best actress. Kate would be second but her motives did not make sense as the story unfolds.

Season two is starting off cool but I hope the writers wont drop the ball this time.
