Paratroop Command (1959)
What theater of war is the opening, really? While paratroops were used in North Africa they sure didn't chute into Southern California terrain
Meh. Way too unrealistic except for most of the uniforms..
Ecce Homo (1965)
Is this the movie that I am thinking of?
I suppose to use a more modern phrase would be to call this a rip-off of Mondo Cane. But I recall the title in the US as just plain "Ecce", subtitled "Behold". I can't remember all the scenes, but I think they may have duplicated some from Mondo Cane. All in all, they were both pretty interesting to a 14-16 year old. I didn't get to see Mondo Cane until the latter half of 1963 here in the US. I had no trouble getting into either flick, probably because the rating system was different back then, and I never kept track of those changes. I am sure there was some kind of nudity in both. If anyone out there can shed further light on Ecce, I would appreciate your comments. The guys I saw it with smoked so much reefer since then, they can't remember much at all.
Sands of the Kalahari (1965)
Definitely a great lost movie
I have to agree with Freddy from Melbourne. I saw this movie at the Route 3 Drive-in, East Rutherford NJ at age 16, and it made me forget my teenage hormones. The scenery and cinematography were still superb, considering the size of the Drive-In screen. It was one of those flicks that had to be watched without distraction. Yet,I have never seen it on TV, and except for those who saw it with me, and my younger sister, I have never met anyone who viewed it in any medium. I can't seem to find it on VHS or DVD, maybe I will have to do some more Internet searching. I saw "Flight of the Phoenix" at the same Drive-In, and I have to agree, the publicity for that was way more than "Sands". Durn shame. I am not hoping for a remake of it, though.
