It was very cool that the movie was in Aramaic, the original language of Christ. In general, I think, if you don't enjoy watching human suffering, I'd recommend skipping the film altogether. The only real enlightenment you can get from this film, is that Jesus suffered a lot, which is clear from buying a statue of a cross with him on it. His message and the entire context of why he suffered is lost by emphasizing the life just before his death. One does not learn more about the message of love that created the popular faith. Making the film more in context may also have lessened the potential me use of this film to target jews. The religious debate explaining why the Jews thought he was breaking their laws is also lost.
In short, let's say I can understand why the Jewish community is not out sending it raving reviews. Still, the Roman soldiers are not portrayed favorably either, although they are killing Christ to make the Jewish establishment happy, they take much joy in their work. Historically this has not stopped anti-semitics from focusing on the Jewish factor and more so ignoring Christ's own words. Somehow the fact that people are making millions from this film also does not feel right from the perspective of what Christianity is all about.
