Fences: A Unique Movie That Celebrates Life And Death
28 February 2017
In her Oscar speech, the wonderful Viola Davis gave away the reason why she's an actress. She said she wants to tell stories that celebrate life. That's exactly what Fences is about. Celebrating the whole journey.

Fences is about a man, with so many fallen dreams. You can look at him and his dreams with very different lenses. You can see a man who has killed his own dreams, a man who chose to be miserable, stiff and unable to enjoy the little things in life. You can also see him as an innocent hardworking one who was pulled down with weights bigger than he could carry. You can see him as a lucky man considering his doings, who has a job, a family and a very good friend. And you can see him as all of these in one human being. There will be things you'll appreciate and others you don't, and that depends on who you are as a person.

Fences is also about poverty, about love and respect and how fine a line can be drawn between both. It's about the difference between what we can change and what we will have to accept. It is about choices. It is about our minds, how and what we choose to believe. There are also painful scenes about mental illness, painful and poetic and true. My personal opinion is that race is not one of the themes as others have pointed out. I guess the story is very universal, very inclusive.

The acting in the whole movie was one of the best I have ever seen. Amazing direction, amazing screenplay. Maybe the first 30 minutes weren't very eventful or purposeful, but the overall slow rate and steady rhythm were important to the story as a whole.

People who love slow movies, with good drama and realistic characters may enjoy this. I don't know if we can learn something out of it, just enjoy it or have some good discussions about its themes. I guess it offers something different for everyone.

A piece of art: Unconditional love and other matters of the heart ..
6 July 2014
What a wonderful movie ..

After watching too many movies, I learnt something very important: the rarest and most beautiful of movies are usually -but not always- unappreciated. Some movies become classics and I have no idea why, and others are simply overlooked when they have great things to teach ..

I have too much to say about this masterpiece, but here's a few points to try to sum up:

1- Judgment, we oven tend to judge without ever having a good thought or a tender approach. We do not care to listen to the story, we just condemn. This movie puts you right there, in an extraordinary unfamiliar situation you would normally judge and condemn anyone in, and tells you, "Deal with it" ..

2- Unconditional love. Too rare in the real world, too rare you'll see a human being loving another with all the demons inside. This is so unfortunate, for unconditional love usually opens the door for us to view the world in a completely different light and perception. What was extraordinary about this movie, is that it showed two types of unconditional love, one romantic and the other parental.

3- Good parenting doesn't mean transforming into a policeman, or choosing what your child should have as a hobby. True parenting means loving your child as he/she is, and most importantly, taking the time to live together. You share a life, you should not just preach about what's right and what's wrong, and I wished people would appreciate how a relationship like this is formed .. So beautifully portrayed when the mother took the time to teach her son about sex, not the bodily fluids and functions, as she says, but rather the feeling .. or when her son takes the time to make her breakfast in bed, rather than the father who just cares his son would not join a dance group so his peers wouldn't think he's gay.

4- True love is something we should value as much as our own lives. And you get a lot more from life when you know what your priorities are. Also, true love doesn't "develop" in weeks or months, sometimes it takes an eye-contact. Decades of living together or hardships do not make for two lovers, it makes for two "partners".

5- Beautiful people come in all sorts of form, and I usually view the most beautiful as the ones who've learnt the most from their pain, the most forgiving and the most "open-hearted" before "open-minded" .. Just pay a little more attention to what the father tells his son at the end of the movie about his ex-wife and you'll "feel" what I am talking about.

6- The movie was realistic, it didn't just alter the ending to fit or to have more of a "feel-good" garbage effect. With some exceptions as leaving the door unlocked sometimes, or all three of them playing outside, I consider the movie didn't lose its grip on reality.

Overall, this movie had some elements from "The bridges of Madison county" and others from "Mud", but still stands on its own as something different, interesting and thought-provoking. The flash-backs to both of their histories didn't matter to me much, because this is basically about unconditional love, so I appreciated the moment when Frank opens the album and sees her pregnant photo but doesn't ask, much more. I recommend it to anyone who wants to learn about redemption, unconditional love, relationships of many types and what hunger for love and human contact means. Not recommended at all if you didn't enjoy "The bridges of Madison county" and the kind of adult realistic Meryl Streep- drama movies. Very well acted, adapted and directed, I didn't have a dull moment, and the clichés were minimal.

I love you with all your demons
25 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is a very strange movie that is hard to be categorized .. A tale about almost everything:

1- True love, and how it can turn over the whole game, how it can change souls, save lives and redeem some people.

2- Poverty, oppression and politics .. how most of the time events get so related without us noticing or taking the time to look closer.

3- Fate, with all the themes you can imagine, taking place in one movie .. I bet even if you're young, you will feel old by the end of this powerful movie ..

4- What really matters in life, the kind of imprint you will want to leave someday, sometimes it's not about being tough or seemingly strong, but rather about knowing love and being gentle ..

5- I've never been afraid of death itself, as I have from an unlived life. However, the line said by Clara, "You must not wish for death, that's not important, death will come no matter" is one of the most powerful I've ever heard in my life, and a scene anyone should watch if they ever get hurt enough to want their life to end ..

6- And most importantly, it has taught me a lot about unconditional love .. You'll see an oppressor -who has raped a girl and denied a child, almost killed the only man his daughter has ever loved and got rid of his lonely sad sister- loved by a woman that's as beautiful as an angel .. Because that's unconditional love most of us have no knowledge of, because we have a compromised understanding of "common sense", because you love someone as they are with all the demons inside and because, if you look too carefully, you'll know that none of us are angels or demons. We're grey. And we can find ourselves in places we've never dreamt we would put ourselves in, or wake up to find ourselves diverted a lot from the path we've originally chosen.

This is a very powerful movie that's highly entertaining and deep, and its depth is measured by how much "you" can get out of it. Regards to all the makers of this beautiful movie which should be one of the top movies ever, especially the amazingly graceful Meryl Streep. Thank you.

Amazing grace of 2 women: Silkwood and Streep
22 June 2014
What does your own hero look like ?

How do you judge people ?

When should you let go ? And when should you stick around ?

With "amazing grace", the beautiful Meryl Streep and Karen Silkwood have both tried to answer our questions. This wonderful movie wasn't about Silkwood's bravery in demanding people's absolutely basic rights only.

Most of people judge others by their own definition of "honour". You tell a friend about how this woman sleeps with everyone and the word goes on about how this promiscuous woman is a devil. This portrayal of Karen Silkwood will definitely conquer your image and your ways of judgment. As you can see her life ends, you'll know what really matters in life and what real honour looks like. You'll know that each one of us has their own demons, and some more than others, maybe for the bigger part, because they've witnessed what the rest didn't in their lives. You can never judge this woman saying she left her children when she's fighting for the framed pictures they're taking from her as they've found her house's contaminated, you can never judge her emotional and sexual behaviour when you see the look - to Drew- in her eyes before she dies and you can never judge the quality of her life given her psychological disturbance. This beautiful woman fought for what really matters in this life: end of fear .. end of blackmail for money and food. She's a hero by all means, defying all sorts of authorities with absolutely no support most of the time. You can see the struggles of being with someone who wouldn't save the world like you're trying to, but turns out to love you as you are with all your demons.

The real lesson for most people in this movie was about bravery and courage, but for me, it was mostly about acceptance, judgment and what really matters in this life.I can't thank Meryl Streep, Cher, Kurt Russel and Director Mike Nichols enough for this masterpiece, especially the ever-amazing and graceful, Mrs Streep .. You've taught me more than I've ever learnt from anybody in my own life.

If you ever wonder about life's priorities .. :)
19 June 2014
This movie was a beautiful source of inspiration in my life. Whenever I'm confused with all the burdens, remembering this movie tells me what to do.

The beauty of it is how it shows you the difference between wasting your life with someone, and offering your life to someone. There's a great difference which we tend to sometimes not pay attention to. Diane Keaton "Bessie" shines in one of the brightest scenes I have ever seen in my life, telling her sister how she loved offering her life to her sick father and aunt, and how true love takes different forms and comes in ways we never to expect. Meryl Streep "Lee" on the other hand, succeeds brilliantly in showing us that pursuing our idea of a full free life can be a waste of time, an illusion. Maybe the best things in life aren't about what we think we know. This piece of art is a gem for anyone who likes drama and is interested in learning a real lesson or whoever liked "One True Thing" and other wonderful movies which didn't get the recognition they deserved. The movie is very entertaining, provoking and beautiful although it gets sappy at some parts. An applause to real movies' makers.

Third Person (2013)
4/10
Definition for passionless ? Or Definition for pretentious ? Waste of time.
19 June 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I've been a fan of interlocking stories since Crash. It wasn't forced at all for my taste. Naturally, I was eager to see Third Person, but I was really shocked.

1- The movie had nothing to do with "interlocking" stories. It was a very catchy phrase to get people to see it. There are common "themes" which is a different matter. Even using themes was useless and had no meaning whatsoever. A guy who lost his kid -drowned- while calling his mistress is compared to a guy who lost his kid -drowned too- while making a business call to a woman who lost custody of her child because of a mistake ? Even if the writer could develop some relations between the situations, we should have seen how feelings get to be depicted ! I've always hated the word "pretentious" but actually this is a situation that defines "pretentious". Or was it well-thought but couldn't work out ? All I know is that I saw a passionless movie.

2- The events of the movie itself are so slow with a very bad and weak script. No excitement, no eagerness to see what would happen next.

3- You see no character development at all. And worse, you can't get to sympathize with anyone, not because they are undeserving of sympathy but because the writer couldn't put any life into them.

4- Some actors did a really bad job especially Mila Kunis. Maybe it was their fault, maybe it was the director's or the script's limited range.

Overall, the ideas or feelings you can get out of this experience are pretty much nothing at all. No entertainment, no fun, no questions across your mind .. I would never call a writer and a director like Mr Haggis a failure, I just hoped he could've put more passion into such a story that could have turned out wonderful but unfortunately, it didn't.

Very confusing movie ..
25 March 2014
Confused between having to give it a very low rating or a very high one and with hundreds of reviews written before mine, I still want to make a few points. Maybe it would help out someone:

1- Biographically: I've read that the real John Nash had an entirely different story. Please tell me would you take the history and life of a man and change it entirely, deceiving a lot of people and mutilating history to make a movie ?! Couldn't you change the names and say that it was "inspired" bu a true story ?! Was it that hard or was it not at appealing and interesting ?! So I agree with everyone out here bashing out this movie for being that inaccurate and deceiving.

2- Regarding the fictional love story: it was a little real. When you love someone with all your heart and senses, Hollywood -in a lot of other movies- would be selling you lies. The reality is that even the most romantic couples with the most beautiful love stories ever suffer a lot, fight but stick around. So, it was to some degree realistic.

3- Regarding the mental illness:

Some people here say it was very unrealistic and a fairy tale. Those people didn't pay enough attention to a lot of details in the movie like the baby who would drown or the people making fun of the professor. So I disagree, it showed much truth, although not in every aspect.

There's a very important aspect that was very disrespected in the movie: the Psychiatrist's image and the medications, which I overlooked because that might be the case with some of the patients who weren't taught how medications would help or have had experiences with bad psychiatrists.

A point I found ridiculous and offensive to a great extent, however, was how mental illnesses were portrayed as if a patient with some strong will would overcome them without hospitalization, psychiatric help or medication, just his "heart" as pointed by the wife in the movie. This was utterly stupid, this is a disease who sick people should be taught how to cope with, or in other words, a state of mind that you have to learn to live with.

However, there's a very important aspect clarified here: disorders are not things you have to get rid of or cure, rather than states of mind or in other words, chronic cases, medication should help in some cases, therapy would help greatly too in a lot of cases, and you have to cope with it. Pain makes the most beautiful and the wisest people as I have seen in my life, especially mental and psychological pain, and if the patient/individual knew how to learn from it.

4- Technical Details: The acting was marvelous and the soundtrack stood out. The direction overall could have been a little better and of course, the writing is really criticized for all the deception.

Overall, a movie recommended and shows a lot of reality for some people, but is a sorrow to see it transform true people's stories into fabrications.

Total Eclipse Of The Heart ..
20 March 2014
Like " Silver Linings Playbook " , " Blue Valentine " , " Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind " .. etc, this belongs to one of the most rare genres of movies that a few appreciate .. This is true love ,life, loss, regret, emotional disturbance, choices, pain, reality, stereotyping and decisions with their deepest core explored:

1- Love is much more than what we hear about and fantasize.

2- Loss is unimaginable, especially the loss of a child who you saw with your own eyes going through a lot of pain. Life between people after loss, even the ones with the most romantic stories ever, is really challenging, and we can imagine the " loss " theme here as anything, maybe it's the death of a child, maybe a mental illness, maybe a disability or an accident. Choosing to go on is never easy and requires a lot of patience and strong will.

3- We can see in the movie how life throws you in all this, and it would be really sad and depressing if you throw more at yourself and choose not to fight back.

4- Acceptance and all the feelings coming with that.

5- Exploring the " beliefs " theme. What stands out is that it doesn't try to manipulate you into thinking that something is right or wrong, it just takes you to the most profound questions a lot of people have wondered about, sincerely and without alterations.

6- Applause to a movie that finally, could show the American policy - policy and not society or people- for what it really is: " Technology for killing people knows no bounds, but technology for curing people is a different story". It might be the land of freedom for a lot of people, but this story has a couple of neglected sides. The Republicans' history, the crimes in the middle-east and a lot of stupid laws passed are a live witness on what the American policy has helped the world to reach.

7- The reality factor was so strong, raw and gripping and this is something rarely depicted in American movies. I've seen a lot of American movies with nudity and profanity, but never have I seen one that showed a chubby woman or a man with broken teeth or anything nearly like that, because they are so obsessed withe the " perfectness " of everything, which is basically an illusion, because nothing's perfect and beauty is in the eye of the beholder !!

I would do a strange thing and recommend this to anyone who has ever thought about committing suicide or knows someone who has suicidal thoughts .. Yes, it's too much to handle on the emotional level, but it gives you so much to fight for when you see giving up and suicide from an outsider's viewpoint .. There's still too much beauty to let go ..

This movie could be about so much things, the director and the writer could have made it about religion or differences or thinking, but they chose the right decision, which is only use a glimpse of each and how they would affect the main storyline .. Unbelievable performances from the actor, marvelous direction, amazing editing and great music. Thanks to everyone who participated in this.

The movie is Belgian, it was nominated for an American award and I'm an Egyptian, and it somehow could touch us all and play at the most delicate heart strings ..

Would Prefer " Lars And The Real Girl " But Not Bad At All :)
1 March 2014
Do you know that suicide is one of the three top causes for deaths ?

In America specifically , teens and adults too ( 20s and 30s ) then it falls below the third place starting from 40 . Unfortunately , for the whole humanity , we bust ourselves working to find a cure for all pains , and find something to lower deaths' rate of Cancer , heart diseases and AIDS , .. etc but we don't even try to give a shot at one of the most important cause of death , suicide , a person's psychology and inside .

As a student in Med school , interested in Psychiatry in specific , I try all the time to look for movies with the portray of psychiatrists and I get shocked at what Hollywood gives . It almost always shows the therapist/psychiatrist as a totally useless person with some books around . A psychiatrist can save someone . Although I feel the movie is lacking some elements , it's good and deep . I don't know why in specific , but I there are other movies with psychological experiences which are better than this . I recommend it for the ones who would like to see a good drama and some psychological aspects of the human mind . I wouldn't recommend it , however , for someone who's a little more advanced , either as a psychiatrist/therapist or even as moviegoer who's seen deeper ones . Robin Williams was phenomenal . Still , many elements were missing if one wanted to tangle such a thought . I give it a 7 because of its originality back in 1997 and because of the relatively few fascinating scenes as the one at the lake . I would also recommend " Lars And The Real Girl " ( mostly ) , " Crash " ," August: Osage County " and " Silver Linings Playbook " for anyone who agrees with me . They are similar but a lot deeper and will give you wonderful insights into how the human psyche works :)

Talks About Everything To The Heart , A Must-Watch Even If You Didn't Like The Idea , Thoughts On The Masterpiece
28 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Racist ? Mindless ? Unrealistic ?

I recommend this to " everyone " when I know that some will mot like it . It's also a fact that this movie is a slice from real life , which is why some people who can't believe these things happen and some other who have mistaken symbols for force , have disliked this . Pointing fingers to this film-makers isn't by any chance going to deny that this doesn't happen in the world and symbols authenticate the meaning in every way possible .

Very surprisingly , this movie discusses all the following ( and more ):

1- A very neglected face of racism , which is anger . Movies like " 12 years a slave " discussed racism from the view point that whites felt superior to blacks because they were raised to believe so , and even in Django Unchained , they backed it up with some fake scientific evidence . But here , some people are angry and uncomfortable in their lives . They bash it out in the form of racism , but also in other forms too if you paid a closer look to their lives . This was a very important theme in the story line of Jean Cabot ( Sandra Bullock ) . She accused the handyman " of color " ( Michael Pena ) of being a gangster when he himself , was repetitively offended and terrorized in his own life despite of being a very gentle , polite and loving person . She was mean to her housekeeper " of color too " although she was the one who eventually saved her . And through out those two actions , you can see the real heart of humanity . The hug between Jean and her housekeeper was really beautiful and said a lot about how human beings should always stand together and leave all this mindless racism behind . Also discussed in the Persian man's story line , where his anger , caused by everyone calling him an Arab and throwing him accusations , plus a personal incidence , led him to almost kill a human being , belonging to a minority too , who had completely nothing to do with the injustice and prejudice the Persian man's had met .

2- There's no such thing called " Black And White " . Human beings are like packages . The man who stole your car is a thief , but that's not his life-label . He's a thief at that situation , but he's a father at home , maybe more loving and caring than you are . Maybe he had done a lot of good in his life and this was his big mistake or downfall . This is discussed more than perfectly in Officer Ryan ( Matt Dillon )'s story line when , at first , all you can do is hate him for being that racist to the receptionist ( who turned out to be another racist after all , speaking of hidden racists , there's also the Chinese man's wife ) and even sexually assaulting a woman in that way , but at the same time , he's a man who cares so much for his sick father and would never leave him alone . He would do anything to make him feel better . He's a policeman who risked his own life to rescue another human being . Yes , he's been a racist , but we should never condemn people even if they made mistakes because we're no Gods , and because we may never know the other side of the story and because we may never know what other things this person does in life . We all make mistakes and we're all flawed .

3- Politics , and how dirty they can get sometimes , playing with the race card when the race is sometimes has nothing to do with anything going on . Perfectly discussed in Officer Hansen ( Phillip ) 's storyline , who's white , as he killed a black guy , not out of any spiteful feelings , but as a mistake trying to defend himself . It's debatable , but it still has nothing to do with racism . Maybe the other accidents shown in the movie had to do with racism ( as the two black young men stealing the car at first ) and maybe not ( the previously mentioned one with Officer Hansen ), but we may never know the truth because of how dirty politicians can be and how they are too afraid to tell the truth . A strong wake-up call to be honest at all times .

4- Many times , humans act disgustingly towards each other and are the real racists to their kind . Perfectly discussed in the Asian man's thread .

5- How we're all affected by each other , and how our lives intertwine . Discussed through the whole movie . It may also give you insight to why people do what they do .

6- How we should never believe in stereotypes , because they are not true . People who believe in stereotypes are the ones who make it true sometimes , in their own lives .

It's a piece of art that it's really entertaining and a slice of real life . It doesn't belong to those " artistic but complicated to understand " genres . These things also happen and are inspired by true life . Look around and think well . An applause to everyone who participated in this beauty . The acting ( I was amazed by Don Cheadle's in specific ) , screenplay , soundtrack , direction and editing were all marvelous . Thank you for bringing such insights into people's lives .

See It For Its Heart And Very Strong Message If You're Wondering About Love And Self-Value
26 February 2014
This movie is absolutely one of the strangest I've ever seen . At some point , I was even thinking I'd leave . However , at the end , I figured out this is one of the movies with a strong message I'd ever seen . Instead of giving it a one-star, I gave it an 8 .

Akiva Goldsman is the one to blame in this mess . I couldn't believe how the movie was shattered , out of tone , confusing at many times , uncontrolled ( not in a good way ) and utterly stupid , not in the least sense near a fairy tale even . A fairy tale is more interesting and even more beautiful than that . The direction was a disaster . Jessica Brown Findlay shines , though . What saved it was what the movie / novel wanted to say about the value of our own selves and the value of love . We have a tendency to believe that miracles are shiny things with a lot of fantasy but actually miracles are not that . This movie will make you look at your own self as a miracle and if you're in love , it will show you how blessed you can be with your love in your life , and how saving one's soul , only by true love and loyalty , is the greatest thing you can accomplish on this earth . Simple and powerful as that .

If you're someone who wants to watch themes of love discussed in good and powerful movies , this is one of the best . It doesn't differ much if you were a believer in true everlasting love or not , or even wondering about it . Try to sit through the stupid parts to enjoy the good ones , most importantly , without prejudice :)

Unbelievable
26 February 2014
" Nebraska " is :

1- Heart-breaking , how and when: you don't get to know , it just breaks your heart in many moments and also along the general themes .

2- Very thought-provoking , especially if you're in your 20s or 30s .

3- Too deep without even getting near to being complicated and with very little dialogue .

4- Too realistic and too believable , although unpredictable in the least sense with top-notch performances , mainly Bruce Dern who completely swept me off my feet and is too absorbing , thanks to Director Alexander Payne .

One of the best movies I've ever seen , thought about and deeply felt . It will make you wonder about and feel many things , maybe for the first time , like what it is like to get old or have traumas and never talk about or even try to explore the inside of you after them , not loving your children enough and realizing that too late , being hopeless and leading a meaningless life at one point , what ambitions and hope do to a man's soul and many more ..

Strongly recommended for whoever wants to feel and explore genuine themes , which , I warn , are really sad , hopeful , depressing , happy , hilarious , strong and beautiful all at the same time .

Philomena (2013)

I Saw God
26 February 2014
There are moments in a person's life when he/she questions the essence of many things , most of all what God means .. We can find ourselves - doesn't matter believers or not - wondering what beauty is or what evil is , what pure love is , and I doubt if we can ever , as human beings , completely digest the idea and feel the emotions in every word of those ..

However , I find that sometimes , we can get a glimpse of each of those . Philomena is great in that way . Director Stephen Frears and Judi Dench work really hard , although it seems smooth , to deliver all such strong emotions and ideas into our souls .The story itself is not that compelling , heart-moving yes , but not that compelling to read or know about , but those film-makers have totally succeeded to bring it on . You'll probably catch yourself furious , smiling , relieved , confused and deeply sad in one movie . It will also make you question a lot of basics in your life , especially if you had never given them a thought before . You'll be wondering about God , religion , the relation between " people and religion " , second chances: when to take them and when not to , friendship , individual differences , fate and most possibly: what's right and what's wrong .

Also , if you liked Nebraska / I've Loved You So Long / I Am Sam / The Reader , you'll most probably like this one too : )

Just Stay Away From Nicholas Sparks Novels ..
14 March 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Ruined .

Writers usually develop this intimate relationship and special bond with their very favourite novelists that they get to understand their every litte detail by mind and by heart . Nicholas Sparks , I just understand him . I love the way he tries to set such stories and I find them absolutely believable and realistic. I have this bond with him that I can truly feel his work and how genuine it is . Some see his novels as plain story lines decorated with a fantasy at the end , others know and recognize a deeper vision and feelings in them .

This movie is really an incomplete and empty adaptation of a beautiful story , with very bad direction that got to place all the vivid memories and important twists in some parts , the rest of the movie time is plain . Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel were not that perfect to fit in the roles , which should have been performed with much more warmness , as the habit in a Nicholas Sparks ' movie . I even view the children's performance to be far better than the lead characters . Screenplay is disappointing . Maybe the cinematography was a little more attractive with a not-so-bad music track . It's just the general storyline that could save the movie from total failure .

" Safe Haven " is a story that's felt by heart , where a novel is being so simple , beautiful , vivid and warm at the same time , something that not all readers agree about in Nicholas Sparks' trademark novels . But what's to be sure about , is that even Nicholas Sparks' fans have found this to be really disappointing to their favourite story teller 's great work .

Absolutely Mind-Triggering And Wonderful
15 February 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is not just a simple romantic movie for romance lovers . It's a movie that explores some themes of real love . Fate and wonders of the always unpredicted earthly life we live are magically explored . A question is proposed : is waiting worth all the pain ? The movie's in-depth point is not only concerned with this fictional plot , where such questions and such roads are met in real life .

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are at their best . The setting is wonderful . The script is so fascinating that I could never think of it unadapted from a novel .

However , the changes between Kate's time and Alex's time are mind-triggering and demand your watchful observation . There are many discussions and controversy about this part in exact , where the base of the plot ( where Kate lives in a time different from Alex's ) is certainly fictional , but that's not the point . The point is : even if you reasoned out all the changes and rationalized the whole movie -according to the fictional plot of course - you still won't be able to interpret what happened at the end ( SPOILER ALERT ) . How come that Kate , in 2008 , meets Alex , who should be by now in 2006 ?! Even if he waited for 2 years as she demands , it would have been 2008 in his reality but time will also take away Kate to 2010 ! I can't say I have found any reasonable explanation for this yet except that Alex waits somewhere till his 2008 comes and Kate waits those two years , same clothes , same manner beside the mailbox , till February , 14 , 2010 when they can possibly meet at the same place and time , although this is not considered in the movie where Kate just waits a few minutes and she finds Alex , which brings us once again to the main point.

Overall , it's a movie worth watching , very beautiful , especially for those who love exploring themes of mystery , fate and questions of love ..
