a slaughter of the origin
30 November 2007
I cannot understand why this film got high score. I guess that around 97% of the people that have rated it, did not read the actual book. To those that did though, this film is one of the worst slaughters of a good story. I understand that in adapting a story to the screen, there is a need of shortening it here and editing it there, but this film version is so far from the origin that it becomes a total different story. I'm asking you, why to take a perfect interesting book (that since it was published in 1844) become a bestseller in so many countries and in so many languages) and to change it to a cheap romantic novel? Some would say that it is done so, because of the audience demand, but I say that such demand comes because Hollywood prefer to create bad movies with the commercial attraction to the less intelligent crowd. To any one that had read the unabridged Dumas' The Count of Monte Cristo and enjoyed it, this film is nothing but a terrible why of spending over 90 minutes.

elementary school play level
26 February 2007
And a bad one for that matter. The level of acting is so bad that it over power the poor visual effects. The scenery and the make-up complete this miserable attempt at film making.

I did not expected to watch a masterpiece or academic show award classic, but come on, there should be a limit to what studios are distributing as a movie, But at least, I thought to myself, there is Amelia Jackson-Gray. A lovely lady by all means. (You can see some of her pictures here on this web page)., I thought, it worth to watch the film just for her sake. But even that minor expectation was robbed of me. But somehow in the process of making this disaster, they have managed to ruin this as well.

(You will not recognize her in the film by the pictures that are on the web site).

Casting unknown actors does not mean that they will have to over act, and law budget films does not mean that putting some black color on an actor face, makes him look like a dark elf. The audience is stupid and expect a little more.

Tiresome and Boring
16 November 2004
In my view, the movie was pointless and even boring. I think the best thing to support this view is to read the previous viewer notes. Praising the movie as he did, he wrote many words in the defense of the movie; but not a single word about why he thinks it is a good one. To say that the movie describe or give an interpretation of real events, will be nothing but unintelligent. Thus it leaves us with the movie itself, which is dull expected and without a vision. The characters are untrustworthy and the staging is defective. All in all, it is a movie that caught headlines unnecessarily. If you have nothing better to do, if you can spare the two hours plus, knowing youfll be disappointed, by all means watch the movie even if just to see its really all much ado about nothing.
