Scarily real
I thought it was great, really well done. As a pilot wife, I was on edge the whole time. My husband usually can't help but nitpick every movie scene with an airplane, but he was pleasantly surprised by how accurate the movie was (most of the time). It was a combination of "This is what would really happen" plus "But we gotta make it dramatic and interesting to keep you interested for an hour and a half." I thought it was pretty good in both respects!
The Invitation (2015)
Stressful!
A good suspenseful movie with a great hard to miss foreshadow in the beginning that only adds to the viewer's stress when watching lol My only complaint was that the other attendee's reactions and attitudes during the whole evening seemed frustratingly unrealistic. They were stressing me out with how obtuse they all were.
Black Panther (2018)
Fantastic & Beautiful
I guess I missed the hype other reviewers are talking about. I think I pretty much missed the release of this movie. But I just watched it on Netflix and then came here, and I am SHOCKED by all the negative reviews. I LOOOOOOOOVED this movie so much. The storyline and the characters had so much depth. My heart broke for multiple characters in this story, including the "villain." The set, costumes, etc. were beautiful. The acting was terrific. And there were so many cute, witty lines thrown in perfectly, delivered perfectly, that made me laugh out loud. Again, not sure why so many people rated it so low. Even if you didn't love it as much as I did, I can't see giving it these lowball scores.
Suburbicon (2017)
A clever take on the irony of prejudice
Very entertaining, well written, and well acted. Matt Damon is excellent, as always. The movie is a little confusing at first and can seem a little disjointed. But towards the end of the film, the subtext sinks in. It's a clever commentary, with a hopeful ending in the two boys.
Bitch (2017)
Clever, Creative, and Touching
I really enjoyed this quirky and emotional movie. It was actually quite brilliant in that at times I was scared, at times I was laughing, and at times I was crying.
Another reviewer said the movie was "unbelievable." And that's true. Just like Peter Pan or The Exorcist is unbelievable. This is an artistic film.
To me, the story is really about Bill. It's about checking into your life and being there for the people you love. It's about laying down ego and narcissism and embracing the beauty around you in your life and not taking it for granted.
Mom (2013)
Absolutely fantastic
I LOVE this show. A 7 rating overall is far too low for this great show. First of all, the gorgeous Allison Janney is BRILLIANT as Bonnie. She really never fails to make me laugh. Her character is so lovably messed up.
Secondly, this is one of my favorite role of Anna Farris's. I really like Anna Farris, but some of the roles she's done have missed the mark with me. In this show, I feel like Farris's acting style has really matured. She finds a good balance between the lovable, relatable lead and the goofball comic.
Thirdly, the chemistry between the two of them is really where it's at. Their mother-daughter relationship is hilarious and charming. It's also very relatable, at least for those of us who maybe didn't have picture perfect childhoods or families.
Fourthly, (yes, fourthly), the writing really is fantastic. The writers manage to address very real emotional issues with tenderness and wit. I really just can't praise it enough.
This show genuinely is fantastic, and I hope they win lots more Emmys! They deserve it!
The Odd Couple (2015)
Cheesy fun but Perry is ruining it
I really wanted to enjoy this show. I don't mind laugh tracks at all, and I'm all for a cheap and easy 30-minute sitcom. I've enjoyed both actors immensely in previous shows (Friends and Reno 911). I was ready to give this show a LOT of leeway. But the number one problem I have is Matthew Perry's TERRIBLE acting.
It is actually painful to watch. I've watched every episode since the show started, trying to ignore Perry's awful delivery. Last week, my fiancé sat down and started to watch it for the first time. I had never mentioned the show to him. He sat there for about two minutes before saying, "Man, his acting is terrible." I said, "RIGHT?!" It really is that bad. I don't know if Perry is going for a delivery method that just isn't working or if he's just stopped trying, but either way, it's really bad.
That said, I'm enjoying Thomas Lennon's performance and character. I miss Lieutenant Dangle, so it's good to get a giggle out of him once a week in his new role. He plays the effeminate goofball really well.
