Ted 2 (2015)
Rare example of a sequel being better
10 July 2015
The original Ted was one of those movies where you watch and realise you already saw the best bits in the trailers and other clips. I enjoyed it but overall I had a feeling of disappointment.

But this sequel I absolutely loved and I was giggling, shrieking or "doing a Mutley" every couple of minutes for almost the entire movie. My eyes were stinging with tears of laughter by the end.

Brilliant stuff.

Nice soundtrack too.

I must check out the original as I now feel I may have missed something.

House of Anubis (2011–2023)

Find the most annoying teens you can. Ensure they have posh names like Tamsin and Quentin. Don't bother that they can't act their way out of a paper bag as it doesn't matter. I've seen better acting in Thunderbirds.

I realise it's a children's show but then Grange Hill, Freewheelers, Blue Peter and Byker Grove were much better than this rubbish. As were Adventure Weekly and Ace of Wands before that.

Terrible.

I can't believe it got past the first episode let alone to a third series.

A little depressing
25 May 2015
This was not in the least offensive. I just loss my wife, five weeks ago and the kids lost their mum. I could relate to much of it - the adjustments, preparing for the worst, the eventual loss...

But for some it may prove a difficult watch.

And this is why I don't like reviewing movies on this site. The idea of being forced to make ten lines is silly. It's just using words for their own sake. This is a 24 minute 'short' and what I wrote in those first four lines is apparently not enough.

Now I'm looking for two more lines.

So I can reach the minimum.

Pretty good actually
20 July 2014
I was vaguely aware of previews on TV and it looked pretty cringe-worthy. But then I noticed Susan Sarandon and I thought she wouldn't be involved in something that was just tacky.

So I thought I'd give it a go. I was not disappointed.

It's by no means a comedic masterpiece but there were some good laughs and a few jaw-drop moments.

I also couldn't help but think of Thelma and Louise along the way. There were definite similarities and not just because of Sarandon.

Surprisingly, attention was needed to some dialogue because of references later. This movie was more than knockabout fun.

Prequel with references to the original
16 July 2014
Interesting that those reviewing this negatively seem completely unaware of the original and that any confusion only arises from not knowing this and not having seen the original.

As for unbelievable characters...well that's a first isn't it. No movie has ever had characters that one doesn't come across in real life. (/sarcasm)

I'm not sure it was worth a prequel, although a couple of things from the original were explained so it had its uses, not least seeing the relationship with Erin and having a better understanding of her reaction when 'Peanut' re-entered her life in the first one.

Altogether, not a bad follow up to the original.

I'm keen to see what the third one offers.

Loved it, but probably for fans only
22 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed this. Perhaps the best 'special' I saw as a prelude to the big one due Saturday.

The 'proper' police box at the road side (or was it really the Tardis?) was a nice touch.

I loved the Cyberman smoking a cigarette in a break on set. And when the Dalek was getting a telling off on Westminster Bridge...that was a masterstroke. The idea of reprimanding a Dalek and not getting exterminated! I used to have the Doctor Who Annual they showed too.

I have to wonder if William Hartnell really said he didn't want to go. Was that written in because David Tenant used the line or did DT use it because WH was known to have used it? The former I suspect.

Allowing for the completely different subject, the all round vibe was very like the BBC's The Hour.

Not what I hoped
13 February 2013
Having seen snakes on a plane quite recently, I was ready for a good giggle with this. Unfortunately I didn't even get a giggle, let alone a good one.

It seemed like someone had a good idea but didn't have the creativity to turn it into something half decent.

Terrible English accent.

The puns just weren't funny.

It's really difficult to find enough to say about this. I suppose the plane looked nice. They might have had more luck with elephants or something.

Entertaining enough. just enjoy it.
16 October 2012
I've never been one for 'period' or costume drama but I quite enjoyed the two episodes I've seen so far.

I don't understand the "distinctly cardboard-looking Victorian Street" comment in one of the reviews. Really? It looked real enough to me and judging by the location feature on this site it was.

There are loads of streets like that in the UK. I can think of a few in Bristol alone.

I mistakenly watched the second episode before the first and I was quite surprised to see two or three characters behaving quite differently between the two episodes for no apparent reason.

Other than that, just relax and enjoy it. Or not watch it just to pick out perceived flaws.

The Baker (2007)
A delightful movie with so many things misunderstood.
20 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
So many things misunderstood in this movie.

Even the explosions can't satisfy some.

"....do we really want to see silly neighbourly disputes and crazy residents...."

It's a small village. The plot included nearly everyone wanting someone killed. Neighbourly disputes might be a good reason to want neighbours bumped off.

"and whats with Bjorn killing other chip shop owners with no police presence whatsoever"

He's a professional hit-man. Should he wait for the police to be present? Or does he complete the job and move on without hindrance?

Not such odd behaviour for an extreme scenario
19 August 2012
Warning: Spoilers
One could easily criticise much about Sophie's behaviour but I think one needs to remember this was an extreme situation to find yourself in - a headless corpse in your accommodation and accused of murder. You can't quite believe it's happening.

One thing after another - the fake passport, no flight details for you, no website etc - makes you look guilty

Logical behaviour goes out the window and escaping the police in fear of going to the "madhouse" is understandable. She does explain this in the movie.

What's wrong with a little escapism? I can't quite believe the villain would go to all that bother when she could have killed her and be done with it. But she was a bit loopy after all. We have experts for that sort of thing. I'm not one.

fun
7 March 2010
Well I enjoyed it. It was just good fun and made me smile several times. I'm unfamiliar with the two leads so I'm not fed up of them. Brenda Blethyn was terrific as usual.

The soundtrack was quite good too and I enjoyed the contrast when the classical piece took over.

Not sure the 'kill' would have been so clean with a sawn off shotgun. I thought they made a bigger mess than that.

"This movie even has big football movie connections it was funded by non other than Rio Ferdinand...that's right I said that huge football star Rio ferdanando..or something like that." He's England Captain and plays for One of the World's Biggest clubs. I think that qualifies as pretty big.

Broom handle
4 November 2004
I guess it helps to have a sense of humour to appreciate this kind of movie.......I recall seeing it and laughing so much that I saw it again the week after. It's EXACTLY like the Carry On movies....just a little ruder. Maybe it would seem dated now.....what from the seventies doesn't??? But that scene with the broom, plaster of Paris and gurney was one of the funniest things I ever saw. Graham Stark was in many a movie of this type and some were really bad. I never saw the follow up...never even knew there was one. It could have been awful. But sequels often are.
