Kili Poyi (2013)
Entertaining!
Films like "Kili Poyi" are refreshing to see once in a while. Although some elements might seem to have been borrowed from the Hollywood it does not resemble strongly to any of the films that I know about.
When you come to know that it is the first stoner film to be made in India it feels great that it came out from Malayalam industry. It just shows that the Kerala audience is more liberal and has more exposure than other Indian audiences.
Talking of the film, it is just pure entertainment. Some of the cannabis induced jokes are good and it seems that the director did his homework before shooting these scenes. The language used in the film is such which would be used in real life by friends or people working in Bangalore or other places in India.
Asif Ali and Aju Varghese play their parts well and do look stoned for the most part of the film.
Do not watch this film if you like your time to be spent in churning emotions or if you would like to take away any message. This film is definitely a better watch than films like Lokpal, Kammath and Kammath, etc.
Marykkundoru Kunjaadu (2010)
Sparkles in bit
It is an Okay film which manages to hold the viewer's interest in some parts and loses steam in the others.
Dileep as usual is good with the comedy, Bhavana is there just for the sake of it, Jagathy and Innocent do not have major contributions. The character which stands out in the film is Biju Menon's.
It has to be mentioned that the shooting locales are excellent and the camera work manages to showcase the beauty in and around the Thodupuzha region.
Watch it without much expectations and you might like the overall comedy and a somewhat unique script.
Mere Dad Ki Maruti (2013)
Refreshing film
Here comes a refreshing film in midst of torturous films like Zila Ghaziabad, Race 2, Himmatwala, etc.
If you like watching good films and not to watch good looking stars on the screen then you would like this film. The plot is simple and sometimes illogical in some parts but still manages to maintain the audience interest. The actors are not outstanding but manage to do their part.
Watch the film for - Humor, Saqib Saleem and Punjabi wedding fun.
I would suggest that watch this without great expectations and you would love it.
ABCD (Any Body Can Dance) (2013)
Good attempt by Remo
Once I watched the film the only feeling that came over me was "Pride". I was proud that India could make a music and dance oriented film without messing up the entertainment and logic factor of the audiences.
Although it is not a "Dirty Dancing" or a "Singing in the Rain" however what it manages is to keep the viewer interested with a good plot, superb dancing and good music. There could have been no one other than Prabhu Deva who could have played the role of "Vishnu" with so much conviction. Kay Kay Menon was great as usual - Give this man anything and he can do it. For that matter Kay Kay is in a different league as an actor along with others like Manoj Baypayee, Nana Patekar, etc.
It is so good to see that all the others in the star cast managed to put up such great performances despite being new to the big stage of the Bollywood. It is surprising that some of them even managed to act better than our seasoned plastic faced Bollywood actors. Only if we Indians would give more value to acting skills rather than good looks then these youngsters would have a great career ahead of them. I firmly believe that good acting belongs to the theaters and films and good looks belong to the modeling world.
Overall a good film and should be watched for the sake of all the great artists who put up a good performance in the film along with the film crew and the director.
Neelathamara (2009)
Beautiful piece of direction
One thing which describes the film is - Beautiful direction by Lal Jose!
This is a good film with a good and refreshing star cast. Archana Kavi is simply outstanding and looks great too throughout the film. I felt that Rima Kallingal's role was short and does not have a major presence in the overall story line. The songs are handled in a good way and the film does not loose it's focus anywhere.
To be honest the plot is simple and oft repeated however as mentioned before the treatment by Lal Jose is superb. This is how good romantic films should be made.
Watch for - Good direction, good camera work and cinematography, good music and background score and for the best part of the film - "Archana Kavi"
Do not watch if you are a huge fan of Rima or Samrutha as both of them do not have much to do in the script.
Race 2 (2013)
One of the most mindless films of recent times
Hearing that this was a blockbuster and a box office hit I had some expectations out of it. Once I started watching the film it was simply getting unwatchable by the moment. I am Okay with Hindi "Masala" films which are made to please a larger audience however this was stretching the limit.
Illogical plot, unbelievable characters, weak storyline and mediocre acting are the interest killers. And to top that off we have some really cheap, vulgar and unfunny jokes between Anil Kapoor and Ameesha Patel.
There is no reason to watch this film which also incorporates some scenes heavily borrowed from Hollywood counterparts. I am still figuring out how come this film managed to get into the "100 crore" club whilst good films out there struggle to make a decent moola.
Lastly, when the titles roll in the beginning it says that Ameesha Patel has a special appearance. Not sure if they messed it up and actually meant to say Bipasha Basu as Ameesha has some considerable presence throughout the film.
