Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Sophomoric & gratuitous violence
Found it formulaic & predictable. Not sure why this is popular & apparently trending. I found it shallow & storylines full of holes. I liked the "North Korean" character Kang Sae; wish they had done more with her character. Jun ho was just a loser who drifted along & had zero redeeming qualities.
My opinions.
Kastanjemanden (2021)
Changed the rate after watching end.
Love this series but became very formulated at the end. Reminded me of same at end of "The Killing" - fantastic thriller but weak ending. Aka Dexter! Sigh
That said, worth the binge! 👍
Bliss (2021)
Not Sci-Fi - not even a little bit
This is about mental illness & addiction. It's a heartbreaking story , beautifully told, that can be understood by alcoholics, addicts, the mentally ill & their families /friends. As commonly heard in the basements of AA & NA, the drug is like a lover to its user; an obsession, a torrid affair. The 'bliss' is a temporary escape & leads to despair & ruin.
The Custodian (2012)
Lovely
Like the concepts here- particularly of love & free will /choice. Simple, sweet & quite nice.
Fishbowl (2018)
Mixed feelings b/c first half was meh; spoilers here
Initially I was reminded of the virgin suicides but as it kinda plodded along, was less impressed. Filmmakers tried hard to make it ethereal... The last 15 minutes were probably the best in that the story finally fell together. I was disappointed that pops didn't lose it & smack the evangelist upside the head w/the shovel ...
& liked that the girls finally got smart & headed "west" for new starts ...
The Prisoner: Once Upon a Time (1968)
Brilliant
Reminded me of the dream sequence in Trees Lounge (Steve Buscemi et al - lots of A&B stars in that flick). Probably best episode of all
Great series -
The Twilight Zone: You Might Also Like (2020)
No héroes here
Spoiler
In "to serve man" the guy who became aware tried to fight it /save man from the Kanamits ...
couple of one liners humorous; soundtrack good;
Otherwise preachy. & they didn't even get a good meal out of them (served no purpose).
Ridiculous close of conversation w/the Supervisor
No héroes here. Ending was almost as bad as Dexter...... & that was dreadful
All that said - Gretchen M. rocks!
Prodigal Son (2019)
Hard to get through the incessant drama but ....
Unlike other series (think Dexter) this has a BRILLIANT & wonderfully satisfying end to the season & Michael Sheet is glorious. It was worth the wait.
The Goldfinch (2019)
Worth watching
Rolling Stone critic described it as a Cliff Notes version of the book. That explained a lot. Acting was good, story was better. Screenplay (writing) was kinda weak. Not smooth but really loved the story. Might read the book.
First time I've seen Owen Wilson play a really unlikeable, total jerk.
Fun to watch (great acting) a very young Finn Wolfhard.
Mortdecai (2015)
Fun
Reminded me of Harry Lime, Orson Welle's bungling con-artist and Peter Seller's Pink Panther -
lovely flick
